Newbie question...threaded top-link. what would be better grease or anti-seize?. This isn't really a threaded area constantly being turned, but there is alot of strain. Both would seem to suffice, but grease would make it easier to turn, then anti-seize would seem to outlast weather conditions and still be a lubricant...Opinions please.

I personally use grease.. However.. I don't think the lube police will rush to your house if you put some AS on it..

I try to wipe the excess off, as it is a bad dust and dirt collector.. and that makes grinding compound.. therefore when I need to adjust it.. I hit it with some wd4o/pd oil and take a rag to it. The wd/pd disolves the grease for a few minutes and lets you wipe it smooth to get the sand off before you scre it into the threads.. Never tried a dry lube with graphite.. have no idea if it would 'stay'.

Sorry for not clarifying the type of anti-seize. I mean the copper-flake soft-paste; meant more for the high-heat applications. It doesn't "wash" away easily and doesn't bleed as grease would and collect grime as easily....just thinking too much, I guess.

I use grease but then I take the toplink apart every spring and clean it and reapply a fresh coat of grease. It's so much easier than to be out working and have to use a pipewrench to turn it to adjust the pitch of the tool.

Personally...Id use one of the syn waterproof greases. It wont take much..and wont wash off easily ( if at all??)

Anti sieze if made for a specific purpose...use "grease" on everything else.

If you want to be like 90% of all farmers, don't grease it at all. When it gets hard to turn, apply a big pipe wrench and when it breaks off, blame the manufacturer and go buy another one and don't grease that one either /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Daryl, you just described my process! Almost... Once it gets hard to turn, I grease it, then use a big wrench and complain all the way. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Use PB BLASTER and PERMATEX ANTI-SEIZE on everything that don't have a grease fitting. Works great as a mix on drive line slip joints and splines. The silver stuff get's on everything but we use a lot of fertilzer and spray material(like sulfur) that makes things rust up, so it also get's put on most nuts an bolts when we take apart equipment.

/forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif That's great. I got a good laugh from that one, because you hit the nail square on the head. It is truly amazing how many farmers do exactly what you said as bad as it sounds.

I love that stuff. It works better than anything that I have every used. But blame that stuff gets all over everything. If I use the brush to put just a smidgen on something, it looks like I used 5 gallon by the end of the day. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif
