Hi all .

I am trying to figure out if this top link would be suitable for my tractor . The length is fine but I am not very schooled in what size cylinder I would need or if it matters. This is what I was looking at . "2 in. Bore x 8 in. Stroke Top Link Cylinder" Hopefully that's enough info .
The tractor is a 33hp hst and the box blade I want it for is 700 plus lbs. I already have rear remotes.
Any input would be great.

You need to know the retracted and expanded length of both the new cylinder and your mechanical top link so you can match those 2 numbers up as closely as possible. And what category the cylinder is.

Thanks for that . The one I am looking at is the right length and category .
Do you know if the cylinder size of this top link is big enough for my tractor or if it matters .

2 in. Bore x 8 in. Stroke Top Link Cylinder

rod diameter is 1 1/4"

The other two that the store offers are bigger around but also too long.
If this unit is not strong enough for what I need I will keep looking .

Thanks.

I’d size it based on the cylinders on the FEL. The top link is primarily an adjustment. The lifting is done by the lower arms.

Typically, a 2" bore cylinder would be plenty. But, you're not giving the operating pressure of your available hydraulics. And you're not giving the retracted length or the length of your top link now. An 8" stroke cylinder may NOT be enough if it takes 6" of that to be the same length as your old fixed length top.

I use a 2" bore by 10 inch stroke top link cylinder and it lifts my 780# flail mower. I have the hydraulic pressure on the tractor set at 2850 psi. I wouldn't use it with anything heavier though. Use caution when transporting a heavy implement since a few good size bumps could blow out a cylinder seal.

I am assuming that this is for your LS G3033H.
The 2" dia cylinder with 1 1/4" dia rod is what I typically provide and should be fine.
I believe that the unit that you are looking at will be on the long side.
I normally provide a 17"-23" working length.

The best way to figure out what you need is listed in the following link.

Use that dimension to find a cylinder that has that asked for dimension close to the middle of it's stroke.

This will provide the greatest range for both retraction and extension.

Good luck. :)

Nearest I can tell, the link usually sold for your tractor has these specs:

- Pin hole: 3/4"
- Ball width: 1 3/4"
- Min length: 18 1/8"
- Max length: 26 3/8"
- Stroke: 8 1/4"
- Cylinder bore: 2"
- Rod Diameter: 1 3/16"

Which means @ 2175 psi:
- Pushing capacity: ~6800 lbs
- Lifting capacity: ~4400 lbs

More than enough for what you are doing.

Thanks for all the input guys. TBN is a great place to get schooled when you are not sure what to do .
My wife picked up the shortest top link the other day and it is 20 inches retracted. We wanted to make sure we go one of the 3 that were in stock at princess auto ( I always seem to miss the sale). 129 $ on sale ( plus fittings). That was the reason for getting one now. I have a 3 day weekend to try it for size. I thought it would be ok for length but it seems it may be too long. I have to take off my backhoe and put the box blade back on to be sure. If it is too long I will go looking elsewhere for the right size and a good price.

Cheers.

Being in New Brunswick and saying the store sells three size hydraulic top link. I would venture it's from Princess Auto. If so, their hydraulic top links comes with a 1" pin holes and sleeves to bring them down to 3/4".

I'm about to insert those sleeves myself. They mention to use a copper hammer so you don't dent the sleeves but having no such hammer, I'm thinking of using a plain hammer and a piece of hard wood against the sleeve.
