hey guys, i have a BX2660 and one of the rubber boots on the steering arm is torn, thus exposing the joint to dust, dirt, etc. i went to my local dealer (not the dealer i bought the tractor from) and they told me i had to buy the whole tie rod as a unit just for the stupid boot. this is a slight problem considering its quite a bit more expensive than a little piece of rubber should be, if i have to buy the whole thing i will because im not going to just let that go and let dirt possibly ruin the joint in the future, i guess what im asking is if anyone has found any leads on where to possibly get just the boot itself. BTW this is the same dealer that when i called about this part i told him it was a BX2660 and he argued with me saying it didnt exist and told me i should check my model number like i dont know what tractor i bought. so i ended up going into the dealership myself and explaining my tractor does in fact exist. I wonder if kubota screens their dealers general knowledge before accepting them , well i guess thats why i went elsewhere when i purchased the tractor.

My BX24 is the same way. I am doing alot of work on my last pile that the excavators made clearing my property and tore the first one last year. Bought one but did not install it. I figured I would wait for the first one to wear out then change it. Meanwhile my second one tore. I will replace both and use a radiator hose to protect them like someone in a previous post showed.

Wound up using the one I bought on my neighbors BX24 when I did his 300 hour service for him. His was torn and really worn out. I noticed it when I drove from his house to mine.

At $40 each, I would love to replace just the boot!!

I tore mine up the first week pushing mesquite. I just wrapped them with self vulcanising tape. Water proof rubber electrical tape. And its been on there for years.

Hey thanks for the replies, the strange thing is i never really drove over or around anything that should have torn it, ill try the tape method and see how that goes it should be just fine like i said i dont drive over branches or anything so it shouldnt be a problem.

My boots have been gone for years. Idly worrying about it has been effective so far. 1400hrs later the joints are still tight.

When one of mine tore, my dealer replaced it for free since it was still under the 2 year warranty. I had previously read about the radiator hose idea on this site, but waited to have the boot replaced before I protected it. I ended up using a 4" wide by 9" long+/-piece of nylon tie down strap and a couple hose clamps per side. Works great, and cost me nothing. Can't beat that.

Some of the New Holland subcuts use the same steering link. NH does sell just the boot. As I recall, it's pricey also ~$27.
