Hi my Toro Wheelhorse 266-H has been going slower and slower in reverse. It go's fine in forward. Is there a filter to change in the hydorstatic transmission that can be done at home? The dealer say's bring it in and we'll do a work order on it. I'd really like to be a little more informed before I take it in. take care

You might want to take a look at http:// www.toro.com and see if they have the operator's or parts manual on that site for your tractor.
I work at a golf course and know they have that information there for the commercial units.
You will need the model and serial numbers.

Hi Al

I have a 1994 266H similiar to yours. I learned a lot about the transmission the hard way. I had an oil seal leak and took it out to replace it. Ran into other issues during the disassy and reassy. It works fine now.

Make sure you have full travel on your hydro foot control linkage without any bent or binding parts, and make sure you have sufficient oil level. There is an internal filter, but you have to split the transmission to replace. Carefully inspect and verify all external potential issues prior to diving in.

hope this helps

Thanks for the reply's. I already had one transmission break and have to be replaced while under warrenty. If I didn't have a wife who likes to mow I would go back to a manuel transmission.
Hopefully it will be a easy fix.
Take care,
