I bought a can of Kubota touch-up paint from my dealer, and it is much darker than the original paint. The BX23 is only a couple of weeks old so there is no fading and the can was well shaken. The paint is Kubota product #70000-73713 and is called Bright Orange II. Did the dealer give me the wrong paint? I am going to weld a grab hook onto the FEL but I first sprayed under the boom to touch up some scratchs and it looks awful.

I have had the same problem with the BX22..... poor paint match. I plan on getting a quart of touch up paint from the dealer the next time I am there and use that for all touch up work. Some others have had better luck with Chevy Engine Orange and some of the other tractor brand colors.

did you get the OLD or the NEW Kubota orange. My dealer has both on hand, but at 8 bucks a can, I will use what I got from TSC

Rosey is right on with the Chevy orange engine paint. Took a ride to Walmart and picked up a can for $3.23, and it is an excellent match, much better than the original Kubota spray paint (over $8). I suspect that, although Walmart is well known for their highest quality products /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif, the Kubota is a better quality paint. I think I'll use the Kubota paint for the first coat and the chevy orange for the second.
Thanks for the info.

Sorry Junkman, I didn't give you credit for the chevy paint solution also.

The dealer touched up my FEL when they welded on the bucket hooks. The match is fairly good I assume that they used Kubota paint??? I'll ask next time I'm at the dealer.

The Chevy engine paint purchased from Walmart (if it was a name brand Krylon Rustoleum etc) Should be as good a quality as the Kubota spray bombs.

I'm sure that any local professional Auto body shop can mix the color perfectly, and it will be of much higher quality than any spray can. The auto body shop near me even has the numbers to mix paint for home appliances and other equipment.

I wonder about the match between the tractor it's self (painted in Japan???) and the BH and FEL (painted in the USA???) I wonder if the Kubota paint matches one or the other better.

I have noticed that the rams must be painted by their vender because their color and luster is different and much more prone to fading.

One last thing is that the front and rear wheels on my BX are also different shades of orange. Painted by their respective venders.

With all the different shades or orange on the tractor I would probably recommend repainting an entire part (bucket, Mower deck etc.) Blending will probably never match.

although the tractor is assembled with some parts that are shipped here from Japan, a lot of the content of the BX is American manufacture. They are assembled in GA and I would be inclined to believe that the sheet metal parts are stamped and painted here in the states. I recently learned from talking to a Kubota engineer in CA that the European BX is made here in the states and exported to Europe as well as the European version of the BX grass catcher. I don't have an explanation as to why there is so much variation in paint color, but it might just be the difference between paint manufacturers and batch lots. There is a lot that can change the color just in the technique and temperature that it is applied.

Junkman

You are 100% right. I grew up in and around body shops and custom car fabricators. Then spent several years in dealers. I was always a wrench so I'm no expert, but I've see a lot.

Matching paint is an art. Some late model automotive colors can have 3 or 4 variations of the same color based on production date and other variables. Pressure, application techniques and different Reducers and catalysts all come into play.

I wet to a paint supplier and had a quart of Kubota grey and orange mixed. I use an air brush to apply it and you can never tell the difference from the tractors color. Better than brushing it on and you can apply as many coats as you like. I do this as part of my regular maintenance . Keeps the machine looking as if it was new (which it is). Doing it this way don't cost very much and you will have enough paint to last for years.
