Massey Ferguson 1533
While unloading my disc off the trailer with my FEL, I scraped my hood. Its not bad, only an inch long and about a 1/4 inch wide. Does MF have touch-up paint or should I just get some Wal-Mart stuff? I've looked around but haven't seen anything. I know it's kind of an **** question. If tractor wasn't new I probably wouldn't even bother. Kind of griped with myself that I did it.

AGCO/Massey Ferguson carries O.E.M. touch-up paint. The stuff you get at TSC does a "fair" job of matching but fades out in sun faster than the O.E.M. which shows up as a dull area in a year or so. Van Sickle (available at some aftermarket sources) is a good color match but has a slightly different "sheen" than the O.E.M. color. Most auto paint vendors have good "name brand" paints that match and have better UV resistance than cheaper paints but that's not a carved in stone fact.

Thanks, I got to slap something on there. Probably rust if I don't.

If it is quarter inch wide, get a MF spray can an then tape it off and spray it. It works better if the tape is an 1/8 - 1/4" away from the scratch. Then mist it. At least that is what works for me.

Mist as in put real light coats.
I'll try to tell you how I do it. I don't know if I can so that anyone understand it or not. I tape it off about a 1/4" away from the bad scratch with cover paper. The I use a fiber glass sanding stick from 3M to smooth the edges along the scratch. Then wipe the dust off. Then I take masking tape, fold it long ways and put it on top of the tape that I put there first. One leg of the fold I let stand up on the side toward the scratch. That way when the paint is lightly sprayed the way the spray hits the wall of the tape it make the coat lighter against the tape. It feathers the paint in better that way. I know that this is more than likely clear as mud, but it works for me.

I wasn't as precise or as good with the tape as JerryG, but it worked out OK. By the time I get another scratch or two, spill some diesel, wipe some grease on it, and have footprints from kids on it, you'll never know I did anything. I have to remember it is a tractor.
