The top pipe is snapped off, it looks like that's just about how it landed, must have stood straight up and then maybe the tension on the chain caused it to go to the side a little, luckily for the operator it didn't go flat back, would guess his right leg got it, judging by how it's laying. wonder if the chain is what got him in that cheek?

Osage orange? I thought it was a tennis ball tree, what are they? eatable?

They are weird ... Horse's and cows eat them, the tree is also refered to as a Bois de Arc (sp) wood cut from these last forever and here they are used as fence post ... never rot.

My wife sells them on e-bay, some folks believe that when one ball is on a plate in the house it repels insects from your home. Missiouri folks call them Hedge Balls. The trees also have very very very sharp long needles that can puncture a tire ... makes a great wind break ... P Poor for firewood, burns hot but pops alot!!

We live in Iowa. We call those trees hedge apple. They are native to central plains a well adapted to the local climate. Our land is full of them. The thorns are sharp and strong and can easily puncture tires or boots. The wood is very popular material for fence posts and could last often over 100 years I heard from my neighbor who was born and lives all his life in the area. The fruit s are good for target practice. Throw them up and shoot them with a shotgun.
My wife hates them because of thorns but I like them because they are maintenance free and also we should enjoy the nature as it comes.

Speaking about flat tires I was fixing them weekly until I bought slime and stuffed some in each tire. The tires were OK as long as the weather was warm or the tractor sat in the heated garage. Then I took the tractor out to push some snow and all four tires went flat shortly after. I found that the slime froze inside and also all the thorns started to come out due to the rubber hardening in the cold. There was a bunch of holes in each tire. I had to cut the plugs in three portions to have enough of them. The tires looked like hedgehog when I was done.

Does anybody know if there is different slime that would work in freezing
temperature?

I am from Missouri, that's a hedge apple, not a hedge ball. I had one in my back yard as a kid. It left it's mark on me since I tried to climb it and got stuck more than once.

I have a close friend in Lamar, Missouri. Their last visit his wife said "I didn't know you had hedge balls!"

Thus the reason, I stated Missouri folks call them hedge balls ... then again you are the show me state ... first we tell you and then we got to show you!!!

Hedgeball must be a Western MO term. I am in the Eastern side of the state. What exactly do you want to show me?
