Back in the late 1960's, the State Police in unmarked cars on the Jersey Turnpike would get in front of a pack of cars going over the speed limit and then a few follow cars would just turn on the sirens and move the entire pack to the side of the road. It was common to see 20 or 30 cars all ticketed for going over the speed limit. I got caught in one of the packs, and it was only my association with the local rescue squad that saved me that day. Gave me a defective equipment violation instead of the moving violation. Lot cheaper and no points..... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif The only state that I ever heard of using aircraft back then was Florida...... /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Next you'll be telling us that they use aircraft for speed enforcement.

My wife got a ticket in the mail from the NYS Thruway Authority because the state troopers clocked her by helicopter.

The helicopter they use around here is at the local airport. See it taking off once in a while going home at night.

( Brian, in every case that I'm aware of, when you see that "Speed Limit Enforced by Aircraft", they have marks of some kind, usually painted on the pavement, at measured intervals, and occasionally have an officer in a police aircraft in the air that times vehicles from one mark to the next to calculate their speed. )

Pretty much a standard VASCAR setup.
Personally, I have never seen (noticed) a plane or helicopter on patrol in our area. I saw the aircraft in use years ago in NY and somewhere out west (NM or AZ?).

It's been a few years, but the Wisconsin State Patrol used to use aircraft occassionally. I believe that the last time I noticed it would probably have been early to mid '90's.

Come to think of it, I don't recall seeing any of those warning signs around.

Oh yeah, I forgot. The State Patrol can't use aircraft anymore. The Governor sold off all of their planes to help reduce the deficit! /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

I bid on one of them and lost. Auction was on the state of Wisconsin website, 2 years ago, I think. It sold for much more than it was worth. It was a mid 70's Cessna Skyhawk (172). /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

I lived in Poughkeepsie NY when Tawana Brawley lied about her ordeal. She wrecked the reputations and livelihood of many innocent people because she wanted a good excuse to skip school. I think the authorities should have arrested her and charged her with whatever she as in violation of, fraud, slander, whatever. Sharpton, Mason and Maddox were to blame also, along with all the other big name black celebrities like Bill Cosby, Muhhamed Ali, Micheal Jackson, Don King, etc, who showed up and accused the local government of racism and corruption.

I will never like or respect Al Sharpton, he's a racist who apparently thinks that is acceptable because he is black.

edit - and I think the cops did the right thing when they arrested the five year old. They should arrest the mother too for neglect. At least the five year old has had the scare of her life at age five, when it's easy to recover from it. If she were 18 and being arrested for battery, her future would be alot different than it actually will be now.

Unfortunately, the Mother's attitude toward the incident will stick with the child more than the actual incident because the attitude will be lived with each and every day. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Hey Junkman, Nice photo and great looking youngster you got there. I bet you could win an award for that picture. You really should submit it somewhere to see what the response is.
