Tower crane op

Hello I'm a heavy equipment operator that specializes in tower cranes.

Question for you: When lifting a load, do you move the counter-weight
at the same time to keep everything balanced?

In Germany, they use small versions of these cranes for relatively small
residential building projects, believe-it-or-not. Usually they are "planted"
in the back yard and kept there until all the major materials are installed
for a new house.

No. Their is alot of deflection built in to the crane. The tip probably drops 10 feet at max load.

I have run a crane that did that once. They called it a kangaroo crane. And the counter weights extended out at the same time as you boomed down. Pretty neat. But it was still run like a conventional crane. I like the tower much better
