towing a large boat

In 1962 and '63, I used to pull my dad's 16' Texas Maid Fiesta, aluminum boat with a 35 hp Evinrude, with my Austin Healy Sprite. It always seemed to draw a crowd at the ramps to see whether I was going to get it out or not, but never had a problem at Lake Lavon and Lake Texoma. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

as mentioned already total weight, of trailer and boat, truck and gear inside, and getting it out of the water, and up the ramp. I do not know about back there but out west we have some steep ramps at some places and if the ramp is wet you need to have 4WD just to get the truck and boat up off the ramp.

You won't be disapointed by having too much truck. Also buying a new truck will help keep the economy going.

I don't know about your particular year/engine combination but on the 2006 specs it lists anywhere from 4100# - 9000# max trailer weight on a 1500 4x4.

I would read the manual, call your selling dealer etc.

My previous truck, an 02 Chev 1500 4x4 ext.cab shortbed and towing pkg had a trailer capacity of 8500#. Your options may vary but I think 5800# would be no problem, especially if the boat trailer has brakes. Your maximum trailer weight capacity is listed in the owners manual for your truck.

Thanks for all the replies. I talked with the dealer today and we are going to take our old boat up and let them look at it and he said I could pull his out to the lake for a test drive and that will give me a chance to see how my truck will handle the new one before we buy it. It will also give us a chance to test drive the boat. I need to check my owners manual also.
