I thought I seen some sort of lock/unlock[able] hubs on some of these toed
vehicles ?
If the vehicle has a driveshaft they do make a driveshaft disconnect union. Basically they cut the driveshaft in 2, weld on splined collars and there is a sliding coupler that slides over the splined collars. When you want to flat tow the vehicle you simply pull a cable in the cab and it disconnects the driveshaft.
There are a number of automatic transmission cars that the manufacturers endorse flat towing. Many are Hondas, there are others..

I towed my Honda Odessey behind my moorhome for several years, and always used a tow dolly. Contrary to the statement above, Honda does not recommend towing most of their cars with all four wheels down,
