All I can tell you is that I have the 8 Liter engine in my 1993 F250. I currently have 369,000 + miles on the truck. I had to rebuild the transmission at about 280,000 miles. I had to replace a couple of front end parts at about 360,000 (it's a 4 wheel drive). The truck still runs great and pulls like crazy.

I don't know whether it is just that I am very lucky or if the F250 is tough in general as it is the only one I've ever owned. I think the 8 liter is a very good option and I think having the larger engine is one reason it has lasted so long.

Steve, I don't remember any 8 liter Ford engines; thought the 460 cu. in. (or 7.5 liter) that I had in my motorhome was the biggest one they made back then. Do you really have a 488 cu. in. that I didn't know about?

Steve, I've never heard of an 8 liter engine in an F-250 before either. The engine options for a 93 F-250 are: 4.9L, 5.0L(light duty), 5.8L, 7.5L, and 7.3L IDI. By light duty I mean a F-250 with a semi-float rear axle instead of the more common full-float rear axle. Not a different body style as Ford has done in recent years. Sorry I haven't replied but I've been busy meeting a deadline in my business. I said 8 Liter but obviously I don't know what I'm talking about. I knew I had the largest offered and I thought it was an 8Liter but evidently it is a 7.5 Liter.

In any event, I still think that it is possible that having the largest engine offered might be a reason the truck has lasted as long as it has.

Yep, Steve, that was a good engine in my opinion. That's what I had in my last motorhome; 1991 model of that engine. Burns a lot of gas, but pulls good for a gas engine.
