Towing with a smaller truck

   / Towing with a smaller truck #61
Does anyone know if I can haul a kubota L2800 with an f150 and trailer rated for 5000lbs. From what I can find is my tractor weighs about 2500 but I'm unsure if that includes the bucket. I will also have my brush hog on there. My trailer is a two axle. My math gets fuzzy when trying to figure all the numbers out. Just wondering if anyone uses a similair set up?.

Its not just pulling or stopping power. Suspension, drive line strength, cooling, ect also come into play.

Exactly why I'd like to have a gooseneck. Looking in the rear view watching a bumper pull fishtailing is a bad feeling.

Found another Dodge website that says for my model, transmission, and gears, I can tow 5,950 lbs. With the 3.92 gears it jumps to 7,150 lbs.

Wonder why the conflicting information...
i don't think any one truly knows from where im from if it can get it to move then it will tow it lol

Chris, one of my former supervisors was planning to purchase a travel trailer about 6 years ago and he knew I had been pulling mine for about 13 years. His tow vehicle was a Tahoe 2wd half-ton, and he was thinking of buying a TT that was close to the maximum tow rating of his truck, before adding passengers to the truck or camping gear and LP gas, etc. to the TT. I advised him to calculate the weight of passengers and cargo, etc. first, then select a trailer that was lighter so he wouldn't exceed the tow rating for his truck.

His response: "Oh come on now, everybody knows those factory tow ratings have a "fudge factor" built in...." Darned if I know what that is...

I pull a B3200 with brush hog and FEL with my F150 which has a 5000 lb tow capacity. Towing is no problem, stopping is another issue as my tandem axle does not have brakes. I just tow locally at about 35 to 40 mph most of the time. I recently acquired an F350 with a 12,500 lb tow capacity. Feel much safer towing with it, even at highway speeds.

Where do you live? That trailer wouldn't be legal here in Indiana no matter what you had as a tow vehicle.
