I am about to be the proud owner of an LS4140HC. I am getting a back blade (mainly for snow clearing). I need an implement for driveway maintenance and arena maintenance. I am thinking about the TR3 rake because it seems like it will do both and more but it is pricey. Is there anyone with experience with the TR3 rake that would recommend different implements? Like a land plane for the driveway and something else for the arena.

Thanks.

I don't have any experience with the TR3 rake, so I can't comment on that, but congrats on the new tractor!

Hopefully others chime in with some info and we can all learn something.

I have been considering an ABI TR3 rake for years. I have a permanent search in on eBay, which pops up about one TR3 per year, used.

The price also gave me pause. So I waited and the TR3 price has steadily increased.

Now I have a Landscape Rake with gauge wheels, Tool Bar Cultivator, Chain Harrow and Rollover Box Blade and wonder if the TR3 might have replaced all four, and perhaps others, with a single implement.

There are threads started about SMOOTHING FIELDS here on T-B-N every week. Seems like the TR3 rake would be excellent for that purpose.

Depends on what your "driveway" looks like, I think. All these multi-function grader/rake implements seem to be optimized for equestrian applications, where they work well and they also appear to work well with nicely finished driveways that are mostly gravel. I would be reluctant to use one on our 100-year old dirt road with hard-packed clay and rocks at the surface. Our simple box blade takes a beating but gets the ruts out of our road.

I went ahead and purchased a TR3 Rake brand new for just a bit more than the one listed on eBay.

The thing is built like a tank. My driveway is mainly dirt with a bit of gravel in places and has not been maintained for years so it is very rutted. Even though I am not done yet the shanks on the TR3 are doing a great job of loosening it up so I can smooth it out. They are also pulling up some big rocks. All the rocks it is pulling up are slowing me down because I have to go throw all the rocks in the bucket after a pass or two but the driveway is getting much better.
