Have you driven it around with the fitting out?

I just walked forward and backward about 10feet. at the time it was wet and raining. have you ever heard of dirt causing them to stick.

Welcome to TBN

On mine you have to push on the front idler to get them to collapse. Also there may be a check valve that the zerk was threaded into. Looks like a blind pipe fitting with a zerk in the end. If so it needs to come out too.

I've removed the complete fitting and it still did not move. If the rain quits I can drive around the field. Do you think this will work.

Just don't walk out of them Percy it's been a while since I had anything to do with cats so I'm not much help even though I know I've done this before.

If you don't have anything to bump the front idlers, get western with the steering clutches while moving in high gear.

That's my only fear. I hope that I can get them to loosen quickly and regrease to tighten them properly. about 15 years ago I was a heavy equipment mechanic. thats the bad part

I ran into this same thing with a 450G John Deere and what I discovered is that the grease fitting threads into a check valve that is (as stated above) hex shaped. Put a socket. Check and see if this is your set up when I backed out the check valve the track looseded right up. Here is a link to what I am talking about on Ebay.
