PARTRIDGE, Kan. A hayrack ride in central Kansas turned deadly when children fell off the small tractor and were run over, killing one and injuring three others.
Reno County authorities said a 12-year-old died Sunday afternoon at the scene of the accident northeast of Partridge. The victim's name was not released.
Three other youths were injured when they fell off the front-end bucket of the tractor.
The four children were riding in the loader on the front of the tractor when they fell off and were run over by the tractor. Three other youths were in a hayrack being pulled by the tractor and a young child was sitting on the driver's lap. They were not injured.
The Hutchinson News reports the Undersheriff says the cause of the accident has not been determined.

I've given my daughter bucket rides and defended the practice, now this is the second or third such post in a week or two.

Definitely not going to put her in the bucket again.

I have given the grandkids rides in FEL, going maybe .00000005 mph while very carefully watching to make sure they are in the bucket. With hydro pretty easy to stop.

However, this is not looking like a good practice at all. Not worth it.

If the hazard assessment challenged among us keep it up soon there will be calls to regulate and license private tractor ownership/operation if it's not in the works already.

I cannot believe this is still going on...I think way too much of my Grand's to try this. People here still try to un-stick their tractor by tying crossties or boards to their tires? Every year it gets another operator. A shame..JY.

What is going on, this is like the 3rd post this week about small kids dieing in a bucket accident. Hate to hear it and my prayers go out to the familes but come on people the bucket is now place for kids. I do let my daughter ride with me but i might stop that too after reading this.

Not a fair comparison. (my numbers are guessed, the meaning is reasoned)

I'm a firm believer in : it's your life and your kids and your tractor, do what you want.. but don't think it's safe.. kids are unpredictable and will do what they do.. including jumping out while your still moving. It only takes one time.
