Worth watching the whole thing.

Nice excavator. Likely out of my price range though.

Hmmmm. An excavator with a breakout force greater than the weight of the machine would certainly expand the applications you could use it for. Push out of a hole, or do a vertical climb. Seems that there'd be some interesting military applications that might work for it.

I would say that there could be enough power to say pull it straight up (see video) but pulling sideways there may be not enough traction/weight that it would instead pull the machine toward the bucket instead of the bucket towards the machine - thus not digging and just pulling you down. This is just an educated guess though so if anyone knows for sure I would love to hear:thumbsup:

EDIT: I just realized I was beat to it with the link to the video:ashamed:

I just purchased a M59 it is very versatile with ability to switch from backhoe to 3 pt .hitch and all the skidsteer attachments for the front. I looked for the JD110's but they are now discontinued
Love the look of the machine :) What's the first project?

I can only say what I did, every body is different. I had a tractor with BH, did lots of work with it. I kept the tractor got rid of the BH, did crazy amounts of looking{machinery trader, craigs list, ebay, etc} and bought an excavator. I will NEVER go back to a BH having the two seperate machines is awesome to say the least. Smaller excavators will out dig bigger BH hands down, plus they are more versitale, and can easily go places a BH can't. Like I wrote "I" will never go back to a BH, but there are those that may feel different. I use my excavator for logging, stump removal, pond digging/dredging, stacking logs/rocks and so on. The only problem I had with owning an excavator is that..................I didn't do it MUCH SOONER. :)

Agree, but I would never get rid of the BH on my L39, even though I own an 18.000 lb excavator. The TLB is very versitale, handy and very often it is not worth tracking my old excavator 1/4 to 1/2 mile to do a job that I can do with the L39, even if it takes 3 - 4 times as long.

But the big thing is I can just take the L39 just about anywhere I can take the excavator, as when I do get very very very stuck, the BH can get me out of situations I cannont describe. The BH is a good counter weight, and having both a loader and a dedicated digger is a plus.

To have an excavator, you need to need to do a lot of digging to justif it. I do.

Mike - thank you for posting that - it makes me feel better about my theory of what I'll do... and make sure I plan for a BH when I talk to the dealer on Friday about a 4520.... Maybe I'll mention the Dynahoe as well, though I can't imagine them giving me much for it.

I looked up the dynahoe, what a beast! It is probably 25% stronger than my excavator. I would not want to get it stuck however. It does not look fun on soft ground.

In todays market, you can get a real nice excavator for 30-35K. If the machine does not break down, and the economy turns around, it might be a very good investment. Then again, these machines are not for the faint of heart. As it seems like you don't have a lot of digging to do, a TLB should be fine.
