Tractor backhoe - homemade

Eric, I'm not trying to hijack anything, I'm trying to ask one of the only two blokes I've found who can speak from their own direct experience. If Bfreaky was still in construction phase you would have a fair point, but his build was complete back in June and there is no ongoing activity on this thread. Bfreaky, I'll leave this to you to determine, I certainly had not intended to distract from your brilliant project. Angus
Angus not trying to be rude; I apologize if it came across this way.

Just saying that you could still ask BFreaky the question in a new thread as TBN members would like to follow along including me.

Maybe DM BFreaky and have him reply to your new thread?

Just a suggestion

Thanks

Yes; I've finished the swing cylinders, mounted them in place and tested the swing motion. It works great. Btw, as far as I'm concerned, this is the most complicated part of the machine and it took a loot of thought and drawing.
Hydraulic thumb is also finished...

Hi BFreaky, how did you weld the trunnion union onto the cylinder, by avoiding that the welding retract the cylinder diameter?

I would like to make the same cylinder for a wood splitter, but I'm afraid to retract the cylinder after having welded. Preventing me from screwing the head.

I love your job onto this backhoe.

Congratulation

You have to remove all the rubber seals from the cylinder because they will melt, screw the "head" in place but not too tight and then first make tack welds on opposite sides. After that weld it around i one movement. When you finish leave the cylinder to cool down slowly, do not cool it with water because your welds will crack

Here's a great example of how a hydraulic thumb can make a huuuge difference when you stumble on a pile of garbage like this one. :)
I picked it all up, no sweat :)
