My location is definitely a factor. La Veta is in southern Colorado and there are no cities with a population of more than a couple of thousand for more than 50 miles away. The local contractors and the local materials suppliers definitely run higher than if you had a metro area nearby that you could draw from. In this case I'm guessing that this particular concrete contractor is booked up pretty well and has decided that he'll do it "for the right price", otherwise he hasn't lost anything. To answer your question, La Veta is 16 miles west of Walsenburg Co. About 60 miles south of Pueblo, CO, about 50 miles north of Trinidad CO, and about 60 miles east of Alamoso CO. Now that I've pinpointed it exactly with all of the nearby "metro" areas I'll bet you're still thinking "where is La Veta". That's our curse and our treasure. It is beautiful here and the pace is slow and it's a great place to live because it hasn't become a Brekenridge or Vail, however because it is very much out of the way, services can be a little tough. That's the price we pay for our peace and quite and undistrubed beauty.
