I'm having a small problem with this thread because it doesn't properly represent the real value of why we spent what we spent. Besides, at $15,906.40/acre it makes me look and feel just a little foolish. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

I would like to propose a slight change. How about figuring $$$$/hour of seat time? At $67.56/hour I come out looking (and feeling) a lot better. Besides, the more time spent on the tractor, the cheaper it gets. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Just a thought.

Good point Bob but the other fellows will still be cheaper! You have my favorite year Vette, I don't remember seeing that engine option in that year.

I guess what I have to look at, when I see my numbers......what is my back and general health worth?
Has it been worth it so far?? YES /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Just got back in from another .5 hours of work(?) on the tractor. Dropped the cost/hour another $.35! See what I mean? Is there a better way to save money than this? /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

I also agree with Inspector507. I've had back problems for years and this fine little machine has allowed me to do many things that would have been very painful, or impossible, otherwise.

As for the Vette. It has always been my favorite year too. I wanted one since they were new. Only took me about 38 years to get it. It may be just slightly altered from original. See attached pic.

Ok tractor plus current toys ,$ 12,800/ 1.25 acer = $ 10,240.

Or $ 12,800 / 57 hours = $ 225

Looking at getting a backhoe soon, so prices are going up!! /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

Oh seat time, $4600 / 200 hours = $23.00 per hour. Amortized $4600 / 5 years I had it so far = $920/er year and getting smaller. With implements $5189 grand total. With repairs and maintainence, $5600. Hey gettin' right up there with the big boys. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Well I'm glad that I'm not the highest, but I see I'm really up there. $13,100/ (.75 acre x 2 properties) = $8733/acre.

Now do I have to count in my trailer for hauling? or my new Avalanche for hauling to my other property?

Heck the reality is I also bought a $500 snapper to leave at my other property so that I didn't have to haul every weekend in the summer........so if I add all things in to include towing to 2nd property then I'm at ~$29,000/acre........wow can't have that.

I better back out the 2nd property to remove the cost for hauling equipment. Lets see $13,100/.75 acres = $17,466/acre.

Man no matter how I slice it doesn't look economically feasible!!!

Well then I better throw in the "I just wanted it" factor.......

Ahhhhhhhhh that feels better already /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

You guys gotta quit coming up with these games....if my wife sees it, I am in real trouble, as I don't think she's associated all these things so far.

OK. $15K total (with attachments) and 5 acres, $3K an acre. On the other hand, I bought the land to develop and bought the tractor to develop it. I've hired out the things I couldn't do with any reasonable tractor, and done all the things the tractor is able to do. I've saved about $4K so far in not having to hire out the jobs I've done, and as I learn more about the capabilities and possibilities of the tractor, I keep finding ways to save more. These are all tasks which have to be done, whether my tractor and I do them or I hire them out.

So, in only 6 months, I've reduced that figure to $11K, and I expect to save a lot more. In fact, my initial calculation was that over the two years I expect to spend improving the land, the tractor will have paid for itself. So, by the time I can call the construction phase complete (it will never be "done"), my cost per acre will be 0 and the tractor will start returning a "profit".

Actually, considering the resale value, if my project came to a close tomorrow, the sale price of the tractor plus the savings to date would return a profit. I approach every piece of equipment and every tool the same way -- it has to pay for itself.

Well, you have me beat by about a grand! And BTW, we are using the exact same signature line. Could lead to some confusion!
