I am in the immediate market for my first tractor. I recently bought a new house with 2.5 acres with about 1.75 acres to mow, a 1000ft paved driveway to maintain, and a lot of landscaping to do and maintain. I also have a small stump or 2 to remove. I will be building a garage in the next year or so and will need to dig a footer and 100ft or so of water and electric trenches. I also hunt deer and want something capable of planting and maintaining food plots of about an acre of so in size on my hunting land.

Here are the 2 tractors I've narrowed my search down to.

#1 John deere 1025r filb. My price with 60" mmm, loader with 53" bucket, I-match, 260 hoe, 647 tiller, and rim guard in tires is $24,500 pre tax.

#2 Kubota b2920 with Kubota loader and backhoe, 60" mmm, land pride tiller, and loaded tires. Price is $27,400 pre tax

I worry about the 1025r not handling my food plot work as well and the hoe not being as solid as the 2920. With the 2920 I worry about the mowing quality and it tearing up my yard while mowing. I will be mowing with this machine for 85% of its use. I also worry about the rim guard in tires tearing my yard up with both machines.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated for a first time buyer. Thanks in advance!!!!!

I love my 1025r. It has done everything I have asked of it on our 5 acres, digging stumps, cutting grass, general landscaping, etc. I paid $20,900 for the TLB and 60" MMM quick connect deck with independent lift. I run wheel weights which are heavier than the rim guard and they don't tear up the lawn with the R4s. With weights, they can be removed if necessary.

Can't tell you anything about the 2920 but being a Kubota I am certain it is a great tractor.

What makes you think the 1025r won't handle the food plot?

Not Sure.. I guess when I look at the size of the tires it makes me a little unsure about plot work. What do you mean by independent lift? Do the wheel weights serve as enough ballast for the front end loader? Thanks

Deere offers three options for the deck lift

3pt - the deck is lifted and lowered by the 3pt
Hydraulic - the deck is lifted by a hydraulic cylinder either tied to a 3rd SCV (not available on tractors with power beyond) or plugs into one of the loader ports (must be unplugged to use loader)
Independent - same hydraulic cylinder as above but with a diverter valve and switch. It is completed independent.

The wheel weights are not enough ballast for a FEL. You must have a ballast box or some other weight for the rear. I use an Omni transformer and suitcase weights for ballast when I don't have the back hoe on.

The BX is a better match to the deere. I love three ranges so I do have my preference! You could save some money though and get the B2620! It is the same chassis just less horsepower.

Aren't you comparing two completely different classes of tractors? The JD 2-series like the 2032R (or discontinued 2520) would be a more suitable comparison. The Kubota BX-line is similar to the 1025R.

Yes they are 2 different classes of tractors. I looked at the 2032r but it is just a little too big for the mowing plus it is alot more $$. When looking at the JDs my feelings were that the 1025 was just a tad smaller than I wanted and that the 2032 was a shade big. The b2920 is just about right in between those 2 in size and HP. That is what got me looking at that particular tractor. As far as the bx line goes, I like the 1025r better so if I settle for a sub compact that is where I'm leaning.

I just figured if I'm getting that size tractor, why wouldn't I get the one with the most HP.

I recently went through the same process looking at the b2920,b2620,max28,and the jd2520. I ended up buying the JD2520 backhoe loader with the 13" BH bucket with insurance out the door for 25,400. I also was wanting a tiller blade but decided to purchase those later. Just a tractor you may want to consider if you can still find a new 2520. I did however like the B2620 but it was the same price as the JD 2520. I'm waiting on mine to be delivered the first week of February. Either way kubota and John deere are both good tractors.

I bought a b2620 recently w/ a backhoe for 22000 to my door. My tractor runs out of traction before it runs out of horsepower. The 2920 has more pto horsepower if you need it.
