tractor buying scams?

I played the game with a seller on Craigslist. It was a low hours Kubota that was obviously underpriced. I heard the same story of "It's at a shipping company" and "We'll use an escrow service, you pay less than 1/2 down and I'll ship for free". When I pushed that I had to see it before I bought it, he went away.

I'm shopping for my first tractor. ... I've contacted classified ads and in response I get a message saying that they have the tractor already with a shipping company and they want me to pay a down payment. ... I'm pretty convinced it is a scam. Anyone else come across this?

There is a huge amount of fraud in tractors on ebay and craigslist. Yesterday I found a 100 hp Deere on craigslist for $5,900 with free shipping from the west coast. A quick search on ebay showed he had copied the photo and text from an east coast ebay auction that had a $30,000 opening bid.

Like everyone said, don't buy anything until you have operated it and checked it out.
