Tractor Candidates for Restoration: My new hobby!!

Hello. I'm taking on a project and would like to share my experience as I go thru the process of overhauling a tractor. My overall plan is to re-use an existing tractor (Mid Sized initially with 2 wheel drive/small farm capacity). I will be purchasing the tractor and replacing its motor. I do not have any opinions on brand loyalty one way or the other. I will be wanting to listed to the more experienced folks in here about what models of tractor you think would make a good candidate. I will post in the best forum for this and will lay out what I think are good criteria.

What will you be using the tractor for after the restoration?

Mostly vegetable row crops and tilling. We will want a 4 wheel drive model to refurb after the first overhaul so we can better use a Front Loader for loading manure etc. It's my understanding that 2 wheel drive tractors don't track well with front loaders installed.

What HP? Or what is the # of acres? ect ect ect

Diesel 38 hp and up. Acres 15-20 avg.

I would say any old Ford, Massey or JD would work well. If I tell you to buy a ________ and they are rare in your area then that tractor is not a good idea. Just for your info. You can often buy a restored tractor cheaper than you can do it yourself. :2cents: Ed
