I would make the dealer an offer like suggested in another post. The other points are all right too, why buy used when you can buy new with lower interest?

ledebuhr1,
The reason for selling or trading is more tractor. I want larger mowing capabilities, pull a small square baler, larger capacites with the 853 FEL and you know more horsepower.

The L3430 is great, but I have found the need for a larger tractor several times.

This is the reason when people are asking for advice on what tractor to buy, many TBNers suggest the largest tractor you can afford.

It is rare to hear someone say, "I love my tractor, but I sure wish it had less power"

AS a dealer, I have had people say they wish they could use it more! The tractor that is, I have seen to big of a tractor and at that point you really get beat up if yout ry to buy down or trade down. Some swallow there pride and buy another mower to do the smaller areas. Then wonder about adding on to the garage for it all.

Thought that was what I was doing.
Started out looking at the BX22 ended up with an L3430.

Thought the wife was gonna kill me.

Being my first tractor was not sure of all it's uses. Now I try to use the tractor for EVERYTHING.

Oh well live and learn.

is there an ideal hp to weight ratio for CUT's?? If your CUT has less than this number you might be dissapointed?

Spock,

Your profile says you will be owning 50 acres soon. Is this still in your future? Would this 50 acres be wooded, or will you be having to mow this much property?

If you will be needing to mow 50 acres, I suggest getting yourself a Kubota M8200 (or similar), so that you can pull a 15' flexwing mower. If you have to cut that much acreage with a 5' mower your wife may kill you for spending more time sitting on the tractor than spending around the house.

I was talking to a motorcycle dealer that I did business with and we were discussing trading in used motorcycles. He kind of let it slip that some people expect as much trade-in for a late model motorcycle as what he can buy a brand new one from the factory for.

I don’t know what a Kubota dealers pay for a new tractor from the factory but he is likely comparing that to what he is offering for your trade-in, not what you paid. Of course he can sell the new tractor for more than your used one so he must offer less for your used tractor even if it is in like new condition.

When you sell it yourself you are dealing with people who are looking at it from the same place you are, the customer, so a like new tractor for a couple thousand less than new might be appealing, depending on the person. Some people like buying used, others would rather spend the extra for brand-new.

If you have a popular item in like new condition, you probably will have little trouble selling it yourself. I have always sold my used vehicles myself and saved at least a thousand dollars each time.
As has been stated, be sure to consider the difference in taxes when setting your selling price.

I will end up with 50 acres of my own.
The other 100 acres will, as it stands now, need to be maintained by me and my two brother in laws.

The land has just about everyhing. Around 35 acres of hay or pasture, a couple of ponds, wooded area and some hills that I ain't gonna try.

And your right as much as I like to "tractor" when mowing time comes the 5' mower leaves alot to be desired.

Was thinking the L4330 would allow for a larger mower.
