Went to the county fair (had to look at the tractors) and one of the dealers was showing off his static display of CUT with the buckets raised high in the air. Isn't this dangerous ? especially with little kids running about and around the tractors all day. Is it possible for the bucket to somehow lower with kids pushing on the buckets levers ? I would not like to see or think what could have happened if those heavy buckets could have somehow came down on a young child or adult for that matter ! /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

I would assume each one had a channel or block on the hyd. cyl to hold it in position. Otherwise, its a bad practice.

If you didn't look for those, and didn't say anything if they were not there, then you could feel a little bit guilty too. No offense, but we have responsibility, IMO, to pass safety information on to others (I feel the same way on this forum).

Sometimes someone just doesn't think about what can happen. If we detect it, should be mentioned.

The most important thing is to teach your kids to stay away from dangerous situations. It is our responsibility to keep our children safe. Others bear some responsibility, but we as parents are totally responsible for our childrens safety. If we do not teach them, injury and tragedy will happen. And sometimes will happen in spite of everything all of us can do.

A neighbor of mine came over with his terribly unruly 4 year old wanting me to take the boy for a ride on my tractor. I refused citing safety concerns. Boy did that tick off the parent, I wonder how that child will turn out....or even if it will survive to adulthood. And judging from the attitude of the neighbor if I had taken the boy riding and something had happened to him the neighbor would have wound up suing me and taking what little posessions I have. Fools are everywhere, beware...I feel I would have been one had I taken the brat for a ride /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Have fun, be safe.

alot of newer loaders have a piece that slips over the cylinder when its raised up so you can safely work under it to service the engine etc, usualy they are painted red, and sometimes hinged to the loader frame, or sometimes just have a place to slide them into to store them, whenever i have seen machines on display at the fairs or at dealers they have always had this sorta thing on the loader, or if not a factory made one then a heavy piece of angle iron cut to the right length works good too. i highly doubt that they didnt have some type of blocking to hold the loader up

At the Woodstock CT fair, I noticed that most of the tractors had a piece of angle iron wedged into the cylinder so it couldn't fall. A few had a piece of wood rigged in such a way that the bucket couldn't fall and very few had the factory installed safety beams at all. Most that had them were larger agricultural machines....

Yeah, I just wished they would put the da* loaders down. Man that hurts every time you hit your head!!! /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

You are supposed to look at them, not attack them. If you hit your head, you are looking down when you should be looking up. Then you will trip over the outriggers because you were looking up when you should have been looking down. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

And what's more, if you dent their loader bucket with your head, they may make you buy it (The loader, that is. Presumably you already own your head.)

YOU'RE making a lot of assumptions. Of all the things I've lost, I miss my mind the most.

It seems that whenever I have the hydraulics up, and am working, like shovelling dirt from the bucket or manhandling something onto or off the forks, the dang thing becomes a kid magnet. I seem to spend half my time yelling at the grandkids to stay clear of hydraulics when they're up. Someday thay'll learn, if they don't drive me to drink first.
