A couple of teenagers in Greeley, Colorado did something similar to our hero jumping his tractor into the lake. This happened this summer.
They bought an old junker car for about $300, cut the top off and drove it into a gravel pit lake. One kid made it, the other one didn't.

The Zoomie headers on that tractor are classic Chucko.
