Tractor for 5 Acres

Al. I have plenty of information for you about Kioti and other tractors. I think you definitely want 4 wd. As for the Palmettos, you just can't dig them out with an FEL as the root systems are too great. I will be using my backhoe for that when it comes in (been on back order). For what you want to do, you can get away with as little as 20HP 4WD tractor. I have 21 HP on the CK20HST and it does most anything I need it to do, and that has been a lot. I think the LK3054XS would be a good choice for you and you can get the tractor and a 60" bucket loader for under 15K. I'll send you a private message with my phone number in Jacksonville, and we can get together and discuss your options if you want. John

Al, since you are new, I though maybe you may need a little info on private messages. First, log in. Once you log in you will see a flashing letter next to "Main Index" near the top of each page. Click on "My Home" and look for "received messages", click that and then click on new messages. The rest is pretty self explanatory. To send anyone a private message (PM) Click on his/her name and on their profile page near the bottom, click on "Send a Private Message." You can save a copy of your letter, preview it, etc. by selecting the options on the compose page. John

I've owned both ,A new Kubota and now a new Kioti .Go Kioti . It is one unbelievable tractor and they still have good prices .
I just took mine down to the local equipment rental yard for the owner to check it out . He looked it over from top to bottom . This guy has more knowledge on compact tractors then any man I know . He has 10 new Kubota's he rents out . He was the first to carry Kubota's in our area to rent ,way back in the early 70's . He has never carried another brand of compact tractor to rent .After checking out my Kioti DK45 TLB he told me it was ,by far, the best built compact tractor he had seen in quite a while .He was surprized at the amount of tractor I purchased for the money .Wanna guess what he is looking at in the future to buy for his rental company ? /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I can't understand the reason for needing 4WD in Florida -- unless you plan on building a hill with dirt. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

4WD is probably more essential in Florida than elsewhere. If I forget and leave it in 2WD, I can bury the rear tires almost instantly in the sand -- if it moves at all. When I have a load in the FEL, it practically won't move in 2WD. I generally leave it in 4WD all the time, as I rarely see pavement. 2WD works better where there's grass or other root systems to stabilize the sand, but on bare sand, you're stuck. When I press the go pedal and it doesn't respond instantly, it's one of two things -- I either forgot and left it in high range, or in 2WD.

AlYoung I live in FL have 5 acres also and let me tell the BX2200 is more than powerfull for what you wnat to do, but I will consider the ASL300 from Polaris with a flail mower and other attachments you need just do your homework.

I have to agree with OkeeDon, there are lots of times I can't move if I have a load in 2WD. Not only that, but 4 WD increases the pulling power of the tractor. Flat ground doesn't dictate the need for only 2WD. Besides, you must not know Florida very well as in the central part of the state and the panhandle there are hills already pushed up by nature. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif John

I lived in Florida for 15 years. Maybe the smaller tractors you guys run need 4WD, but my experience with mowing vacant lots in Cape Coral, FL w/20' flexwing mowers with 2WD tractors, the thought of 4WD to me is a waste of money.

Now I'm in Maryland and still use one of those same tractors I used in Florida (Kubota M8950) and still haven't had the need for 4WD.

As I was writing my reply, I was thinking about the bigger tractors. I'd say you're right that they don't benefit as much from 4WD, but I've never tried one. The big Cat TLB we rented to clear was 4WD. But, most of us drive smaller tractors, and they sure do need the 4WD. I'd love to get my hands on a big Ag tractor sometime, just for the fun of it, but I have no need of one -- especially since the little one has 4WD. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Gatorboy, I see now why you only needed 2WD. If I had that kind of HP, I wouldn't think I'd need it either, but with only 21HP, it comes in handy! I remember my grandmother bought property in Cape Coral when the only way you could see the property was to be taken up in a small airplane. She was upset that we couldn't just drive to the property when we went down to see it, so she sold it. Big mistake as she would have made a killing off of it had she only kept it for a few years.
