Poster on the other forum is in the mountains of Montana...there's some looooong hills out thataway. I'm wondering if he overheated the trailer brakes...as I understand it, fade feels a lot like braking on ice...lotsa pedal, not a lot of slow going on.

Huh? Not sure what that would do for sway.
Huh? I didn't say it had anything to do with sway.
It has to do with the load coming off the front of the trailer.
I have the Weigh-Safe with 2.5" shank and the Sherline. Both indicate the same approximate tongue weight with the same load so my guess is they are functionally accurate for the purpose.

I understand the need for tongue weight, so here's my question. My brother made a utility trailer out of a boat trailer we had when I was growing up. It is balanced when loaded with 2/3 cord of wood. push the tongue down and it will stay there. push the rear down and it will stay there. He has hauled 3 1/2 or so cord of wood every year with it, 20 mile trip and it has never done anything out of the normal. When I saw it the first time I told him he did it wrong, but he likes it the way it is. How come it works?
