Several years ago I built a wood splitter using a cylinder off of a old disk and powering it with my IH 300 and Super M tractors. The set up I have works great for me with one exception, it takes one person to hold the wood on the beam and another person to sit on the tractor and control the hydraulics. Does anyone know if it is possible to add a valve to the cylinder to be able to control the movement of the cylinder from the ground rather than the tractor lever? I am unsure of the hydraulic make up of these old tractor and am not sure if would work or not.

They are open center hyd & kinda slow.

You can add a wood splitter valve to your splitter. Since the 300 does not have a detent position, you will need to bungie cord the valve on the tractor 'on', and then you can use the new hand control on your splitter to make the splitter move. When not moving the cylinder, the new control valve will allow the oil coming from the tractor to return to the tractor.

That is what 'open center' means, and you will need that type of valve. Get one with a detent on the return, no detent on the push.

You are basically looking for the most common wood splitter valve.....

Can you use a bungie to hold down the Hydro at the seat area? There ws a whole string on here about this a few months back. thats what I read & I am doing with mine. No issues so far (10-20 hrs splitting) I changed the Hrdro fluid lastt week all looked good there also.
this is just an idea.
