My State Farm homeowners insurance covers my tractor and skidsteer without any additional premiums. Interestingly, the trailers and pop up camper RV are not covered this way.

Very interesting.......

I have been with State Farm for over 20 years and they insure my residence and 3 vehicles. I contacted my agent when I bought my tractor and told them that the tractor was for private use only and other than a trip to the dealer for service, it would remain on the property. Unfortunately they didn't offer coverage themselves and would have to outsource the coverage for a fee of about $180 a year. I just obtained coverage thru the dealer and saved almost $100.

Jason:

If you cover the tractor with your homeowners insurance, check with you agent to see if you're covered if you remove it from your property.

My agent told me that I was covered...only while it was on my property. I will be getting an Inland Marine policy instead.

Good luck!

CNH will be happy to insure your tractor. However, there are 2 things to watch out for with CNH: they are expensive compared to others, and they will typically only insure it for what you owe on it or what the market value is. I believe the dealer actually gets a financial reward if you buy insurance from CNH, so your money is just giving you a crappy policy that really insures CNH that they will be paid off (assuming you financed with them) and gives the dealer a bonus.

I was able to get my tractor insured under my Farm Family policy quite a bit cheaper than CNH, and it is a full replacement policy, not a market value or finance value policy. Farm Family specializes in farm insurance packages and will cover all your insurance needs in a fairly comprehensive package. Not sure if they are nationwide or just in the NE US, but I think it would be worth looking outside of CNH for insurance regardless.

I'm not a farmer, but curious how Farm Bureau Insurance treats a non farming, non commercial, tractor such as my TC33DA. I've been a F.B. member since the 1980s, and have always been pleased with the results when I did have to use them. Annual dues are about $50.00/yr, and rates have always been low enough to justify renewing my membership.

Just my $.02; Curiousity has reared it's head, going to call my agent in the a/m to get the scoop.

Checked with my insurance person. The company will cover it under the home owners policy as long as it is used to maintain the property ( no farming or commercial work ) with the same deductable as the policy has in force. It don't get any better than this.

CNH used to be that way but has gone thru a revamp of how they handle the insurance. It is priced just about penny for penny as Equipment Insuarnce Intl. and has just as good a coverage including some coverage for tire repairs if I remember correctly. All this changed right at the end of the 2005.

Something to look out for:
Putting a tractor on a homeowners or auto policy could causa you to loose coverage on your cars or home if there is an incident with the tractor.
