My car insurance is with Allstate. They estimated $155 for 6 months to cover $20,000 worth of tractor.

Here in California, Allstate will not touch my tractor even though I have had my house and cars through them for over 30 years. My tractor is cover under my home owners insurance, but not when I have it off the property and during the trailer ride.

Great post Hugh!

I just bought my tractor (new), in the past month or so and have been shopping around for insurance. The tractor is paid for. I have Allstate for my house, vehicles, etc. and also have a clean record with no accidents or claims. My rate for the house and cars are reasonable from Allstate. Nobody at Allstate, (in Columbia, SC), seems to know anything about insuring a tractor except 1 agent. I got the run around. His figure was for $1000 a year for a non-commercial policy. I said, "you got to be kidding!" So far, the estimates for a non-commercial inland marine policy from other local insurance agencies have run in the range of about $500 a year for my Kubota L3830HST. That still seems too high and I have not committed as of yet. Are these insurance people in kahoots?

I would sure appreciate a PM or five from you all with a phone number for other agents on getting a decent policy. If nothing else...I may put Allstate on the firing line and pull all my policies with them and letting them know why! State Farm says you have to have your house, cars with them before they will issue an inland marine policy for a tractor. I have not gotten a quote from them, but maybe this week I will. Does NC Farm Bureau do business in SC? What are your opinions? It's not about the money...it's the principal. No, I take that back...it IS about the money!

I was told from my Allstate agent, that as long as the tractor is for maintaning your property It's covered on your home owners. ( under 40 HP )
But I trailer it from property to property and it's is not covered in transit
so we called John deere credit they added the policy for 100.00 year.

The problem is so you finance with jd or k for 4 years and are covered. What happens after the tractor is paid off??
I had planned to keep mine in a conex box half the time and at my house the rest of the time but can't see dropping 30+ K on tractor, implements and trailer just to have some one steal it and have no insurance. Now I have an old boat someone could walk off with but not my tractor to be.

Thanks

CNH offers insurance for most brands of new or used equipment. These are insurance agents, and I think they will gladly continue your policy (take your money) after your equipment is paid off. I'm guessing that JD and the others are similar.

Mine's paid for and falls under the household effects insurance. I keep it in the garage so theft is unlikely, only worry I got is if the house burns down but the home owner policy covers all things inside to a certain amount so I'm good. Now if I roll it...

I was getting ready to buy a tractor, so I called my State Farm agent and they told me that they no longer insure tractors!!!!!!!!!!!! What's with that?
I have 2 houses and 4 cars insured with them with no tickets and no claims in 30 years.

I had planned to trailer the tractor to my farm and leave it in a conex box have the time and at my house the other time. How are you all insuring your tractors????

What about the farm that you own? Does State Farm insure it for buildings and liability? This may need to be considered as well.

I have an inland marine policy from Farm Bureau on my 1720. I have it insured for $10K. I think that the cost is around $150.
