Price Check Tractor Model 5065E/4WD with a standard loader

Just play hardball. Get quotes from all your local dealers and tell each one they have to beat the lowest a couple times until they stop or you walk away. In the end if your happy with the number, that's all that really matters. To some people the same tractor may be worth much more than it is to another you just have to find a number you like.

perfect example with a New Holland. Workmaster 65, 4x4 with New Holland 625tl loader, 0% for 60 months $29,250 and this tractor has a 4 cylinder motor unlike Deere's 3 cylinder, the new holland has 3 point draft control, one rear hydraulic remote standard, telescoping 3 point links and adjustable. the Loader is also standard quick attach skid steer style......

The Deere runs 100 RPM slower to achieve the same HP. What are the torque rise and fuel consumption numbers I would like to see those for the NH but they do not publish them. The 3-Cylinder Deere is a very proven engine - who makes the engine in the NH? They do not publish it on thier website either.

Hydraulic flow is almost identical and the Deere also has a single rear remote standard as well as the loader having JDQA standard. Draft Control is also standard on the JD. The Deere has a 9/3 SyncShuttle transmission which allows synchronized shifting between Forward and Reverse - I believe the NH only has synchronized shifting between 3-4 and 7-8. The NH is also only an 8/2. If I am doing loader work I would much rather have my F/R synchronized than my speed shifts. While telescoping links are not standard they can be added or the customer can get (and they usually do) a quick hitch. The Deere 3-PH lifts 3591# at 24" behind the lift links while the NH only lifts 3276 at the link ends - not 24" behind...

Also - did the OP ever ask about NH tractors...???

Allowing for the difference in horse power you are very close to what I paid for a 5045E with the same loader and a 72" rotary cutter. The 20 extra HP lists for about $3000 one model to the other and you would have to go down the list of options. Tires brush guards work lights , cutting edge etc. to get it down to apples to apples. I got a discount of $1600 off the tractor and $1100 off the loader but I ate most of that back up with hub extensions, telescoping draft links and third function plumbing on the loader.
Great tractor by the way. Worth it and then some.

Thank you all very much..especially dusy3030. All of your info have been very helpful and useful because now I know how to approach the salesman and start talking/negotiating like I know what I was talking about. Talking intelligently is always good when it comes to haggling.
NOW I HAVE ANOTHER QUESTION: I currently own a JD tractor an old smaller tractor model 2460 2WD. Lately, I have been having trouble starting it and one day it just
die on me so I took it to this same local dealer and he told me that the rubber boot around the clutch was broken and rain sipping through into the hydraulic fluids and now in order to get up and running again it will need a whole new brakes and clutch which will cost me about $4200.00. MY QUESTION IS: Is this $4200 sounds like a fair price or not? Dont know much about JD tractor or tractor in general but I think its way to much. Does it really cost that much to put in new brakes and clutch on this particular model? ANY ADVICE OR SUGGESTIONS??

Not fiamiliar with that model number, do you mean a 2440 60 pto hp? About the cost it isn't cheap to get service work done anymore, have to split the tractor to do this work. Being in business myself I am just amazed what it costs to get anything done anymore. That price is inline with what I woulld expect to pay whether I liked it or not.

All the more reason to get a good price on the new tractor, I would agree to price the new machine on Deere's website and shoot the dealer a price at 18% off of that. Might have to come up some but I would hold firm at 15% off.

Could be a 2640 too. Not only must the tractor be split for the clutch, but the axle housings on both sides must come off for the brakes. I am guessing the $4200 is more than 1/2 to 3/4s of the tractors value if it did not need fixing. I would cut my loss and sell AS IS, as mechanic's special disclosing the repairs needed.

Zebrafive makes a good point I think selling if for $3000 below normal would be a good deal for you and the buyer. Good deal for a do it yourselfer, you avoid loosing everything in it. Take the proceeds with you and push for a good deal on a new tractor without a trade in.

I'm so sorry Zebrafive was right, its a 2640 not 2460 (typo error). You guy have provided helpful info and given great advice. Will think about some more and decide what route I will be taking. I don't have an immediate need for a new tractor but I do a need a tractor. How about high profile tires and low profile tires? Is there a price difference on these two type of tires on this particular JD Model 5065E/4WD?

I bought that exact set-up this spring. I got the 5065E with a 553 loader with a deluxe brush grill guard, R4 tires, block heater, and a hay spear for just a shade over $30k. I did the build your own on John Deere's website and my dealer came in under that pricing. Could I have gotten it cheaper and did I get screwed, maybe but I doubt it. I tried two other JD dealers (farther away) who came in with a higher price. New Holland and Kubota were also higher for a comparable model. Plus I liked the fact that there seemed to be less electronic crap on the Deere vs the others.
