Tractor
DA917H
Howdy! My job moved me from the city to the country, and now I've developed a strange attraction to tractors. Spend my childhood working with wood in my grandfathers garage, go-carts and bicycles, electric guitars and amps in high school, submarines with the Navy, software with the Army, gutted and rebuilt my first house, started restoring a 66 corvair monza in the garage (where I picked up MIG welding), and now with 2 acres to care for I'm into tractors. I picked up a DA 917H from a neighbor with a 4' plow, tiller and mower deck, and I resurrected an MTD with a B&S 15.5 that was dead behind the shed of the new house. I'm looking to fabricate a "johnny bucket" like FEL for the DA917H this winter, and possibly some sort of thing on the back to haul firewood, bricks, cement, etc, to tackle some landscaping projects this summer. Great web site - I'll mostly be digging into practical applications of hydraulics and 12v linear actuators, geometry/design of tractor attachments, and just general humor/entertainment that comes out of forums such as this. :D

Hello and welcome to TBN

I know this is a tractor site, but I for one would like to see photos of your Corvair project

Thank you in advance if you post any pics

Sure! :D

Attached is 4 images: First is the early days on the rotisserie in my old garage, note the home made body dolly and holes thru the floor. Second image give you and idea of how much "fun" I had with rust repair, and this was my MIG welding and fabrication bootcamp. Third is the body back on the dolly in my scramble to reassemble it for moving this past summer. And finally the last image as it sits in my new garage. It has been entirely rebuild from a suspension/steering/brakes/fuel lines, and the engine was resealed with Viton o-rings and other modern sealants/gaskets to keep the oil and exhaust fumes out of the heating system. I drove it onto the u-haul trailer and drove it off into the new garage. There's still quit a bit of body work to do, but mechanically (from an underside perspective) she's solid. But now with the new house, it's on a back burner until the spring - the "honey do" list got pretty big.

Thanks for your interest, and "Merry Christmas"!

Ken
