The carb prices there are high.. you can get them for well under 200$.. the rebuild kit.. for the good one.. is about right on.

Don't forget the 50% fewer gallons of fuel needed in the diesel over the thousands of hours. That's where you get your economic gain.

I was actually only addressing the mechanical issue. I'm on record as preferring a diesel.

Hey, my BIL put diesel in his boat before going fishing last week. Believe it or not, with about half gas and half diesel he managed to keep it running with the choke pulled all the way out. Does that count as "both"; gas and diesel? :D

Who the heck wears out a carb????

I know of 5 old gassers, NONE of them don't have the original carb. I know on the Olivers that I have run, they have thousands and thousands of hours on the original carb. They might get a carb kit every 25 to 30 years.

To me the advantages of diesel are thus:
1. more power
2. better torque
3. motors last longer at high loads

To me the advantages of gas are thus:
1. better in motors that are started and stopped a lot with short run times.
2. motors that sit for very long periods of time
3. Cold weather starting

No. It counts as a multi-fuel engine. :)
