Then it did it again .replaced again. now it only last about a day .what is causing the solenoid to fill with diesel???no one has been able to fix the problem..If anyone out there knows the answer ,I would be very grateful. I know others who have had same problem..I want a permanent fix ..JD dealer dosent have a clue...Thanks for reading ... RON B

I have a 4200 with the same problem. Happens at frequent intervals and can clear up just sitting.

I have found that tapping on the solenoid, applying heat from a heat gun and pumping the fuel charge pump will usually get it started.

I think some folks have changed the thermistor which helps.

Thanks for your response. I appreciate the tips. This is driving me crazy..One mechanic said I would have to rebuild the fuel injector at a cost of around5000.00..............no way..

Ron.. Do a search for "JD4200 injector pump" scroll down until u find the info on> "greentractortalks" it gives the solution w/ pictures..
I hope this helps..
Don't like the "one mechanic" anywhere near your tractor.!! U can get reman pumps w/ a 2 year warranty for 1400.00.!!!
But it sounds as if the pump is "OK".. its just the "electricals" that are wonky.. it sounds as if someone has figured it out & its a 2.00 fix..??

On the 4200 the solenoid does not shut off the fuel. It activates/deactivates the plunger movement on the injection pump. If the tractor runs well when started the IP should be fine.

My personal thoughts are the solenoid fills up with fluid and then can’t be activated. ( Bum Design ??

There are two stages of current to the solenoid controlled by the thermistor. The first higher amp. Stage opens the solenoid. The next lower amp. Stage holds it open.

Thermistor = ten dollars ~
Solenoid = one-hundred fifty dollars ~
