Is this a scam? tractor scam!!!!!

A scam on E-bay for tractors happens about once a week. There is nothing E-bay can do about them being listed. Only until some one reports the transaction can they catch it. Typically by the time someone posts the scam here on TBN, E-bay has it taken off.

Ebay really needs to stop this kind of crap !
With millions of auctions, how are they supposed to find it and stop it?? This is like saying that your local newspaper is supposed to verify every classified ad they print.

I saw a funny one too where a guy was being scammed about a notebook computer he had for sale. The purchaser was overseas, and him and a group of friends got together and scammed the scam artist. The scam artest sent a bogus check for the notebook computer, and the 'victom' sent a bogus computer.. essentially a piece of cardboard with apple written on it.. but ont he customs form he put a high dollar value.. like 2.5K$ what the computer really cost new.. So the scam artest had to go to the post office and pay duties on it to get it.( lots of duties.. ) Anyway, the best part was that they tracked the scam artest to an internet/coffe house in europe, and one of the friends had a friend that lived in that town.. so they setup a live wireless broadcast from the europeans frind computer webcam.. and the guys overseas got to see the scam artest open the box with the bogus computer in it.. that he had just paid a few hundred dollars in duies to pick up. I think they even emailed the scam artest a pic ofhimself opening the box after the fact...Fitting end.

Mike your post reminded me of an unfortunate incident that happened here in Ohio a few years ago.

A fellow (I'll call him Richard for this example) in the Akron area owned a transmission shop and inadvertently made lots of enemies as a result of bad business practices. He also owned some vacant rental property that we was fixing up.

Well he and his wife went out of town on vacation so someone placed an add in the Beacon telling all they were getting ready to wreck this house and anyone and everyone could help themselves to the contents of the rental. It was stripped in a matter of a few days. Plumbing, electrical, windows, furnace, you get the picture.

The owner tried to sue the Beacon when he got back into town for placing the classified without first verifying exactly who placed it. It didn't work. Guess it doesn't pay to make waves in this world, does it?

I was privy to this story as I installed central air conditioning for Richard in his home and he reluctantly told me the story.

Did I get paid for my services? Well that's another story altogether.

I wouldn't play games with these guys. A guy that I buy refrigeration stuff from had an ad in the Autoshopper for a Jeep Cherokee. No price listed but some scammer called and made a really high offer for it, you know one of them to good to be true. Anyway the offer was accepted and a certified check/money order was sent. Well it turned out the money was no good. No harm, friend still had Jeep. Well the guy that sent the check was indeed from out of the country had called to make arrangements to pick up Jeep!! My friend says no way, and the scammer has now hired an international attorney to fight this whole thing claiming he sent a good money order. My friend still has the defunk money order but he now may have to hire an attorney. So if it was me I would just stay away from these guys, but it sure would be fun to beat them at their own game.

Sounds like an attempted continuation of the scam----I doubt they have hired an international attorney---Even if they did --so what??--Your friend still has nothing of value in receipt for the product he is selling.
Your friend should have no need to hire an attorney, and should not be intiminated by the threats.

I certainly agree with this sentiment. There would be absoulutely no case as the scammer could never prove he sent a valid MO. Even if it were brought to a court, the bogus instrument your friend has in his possession would be all the proof he would need, and could be presented to the court without an attorney. John

Oh I agree. My message is you never really know what they are going to do. If they are bold enough to do some of the things they do who knows how far they will go.

That happened to a fellow in Dayton NV, close to where I live. In this case the poor guy took a second on his house to send the scammer $10,000 for a non existing tractor.
Seems sometimes the ones who have the least get hurt the most.
