Is this a scam? Tractor Scam

   / Tractor Scam #11
TB,
Your tractor reply email seems to be questionable. I received a similar response when buying an ATV through eBay. I'd watch out for it. Sorry to stray off subject for just a second...

swines,
I normally ignore the general unfamiliarity with correct English usage shown on Internet forums. However, in this case - hmm....ahhhh....mom was an English teacher...and, ummm...well...every so often I have the urge to whip out a red pencil...and ummm....my apologies...
Why in this case? You know Roy Jackson is a well respected poster here. Even "spell check" would not pick up the difference in his usage. It always interests me when a reply like yours is posted. I'm sure Mom would be proud of you, but you're not getting any brownie points from the rest of us, even though I'm sure you were just fooling around.:)

Hey 5030,
I have a much better use for your 'red pencil'..........:)
LOL ... I see you haven't lost your sense of humor. hahaha

At this point in time I don't worry too much about the proper English. It has been assaulted by lack-a-daisical school syatem, ebonics, text messaging and will soon be the second language of the good ol' USA anyway. Tractors don't be needin' gude english jus gude cents ennyways amigo.

You're making this statement on TractorByNet where spelling and word errors have been transmogrified into an art form?

First, start by looking up the correct usage of the words "then" and "than."

"Then" is used to show the next subject in an order in time. First came the clowns, then came the spelling experts - as an example.

"Than" is used to show the second member in a comparison. For example, "Most of these crooks probably aren't any better with computers than they are at spelling."

In this case, proficiency with computers being compared to the same level of proficiency in spelling.

IMO, da unly tim speling maters is with woords udders mite wunt to surch on.

For example, hydraulic not hydrolic, hydrawlic, etc.

As long as meaning is communicated, correct grammar and word usage is nice but not mandatory.

No apologies necessary...I'm not an English major...but I often feel like correcting a poster's spelling or grammatical errors.

Then...than...Hmmmmmm, I'll work on that!

I often have the same compulsion, but I usually keep it subdued since I am a GenXer that intentionally butchers some things... you know what they say about people in glasses houses throwing those stones.

Tell you what Mike... sometimes your posts come across as somewhat abrasive to me,(especially when u have to wear ur Mod hat which is some of it) but I have figured out none of them are meant to be taken that way... then you post this which I found down right hilarious.:D I am sure if I followed you around I'd find lots of hidden quips like this, but that might be creepy...lol

You're right, I don't mean them to be abrasive but sometimes when I'm in a hurry, I don't type as much as I should.

Swines, I hate to see spelling and grammar usage corrected in forums like this. It is an informal setting with people sometimes sitting around in their jammies pecking away at their keyboard. It is far to easy to pick apart writings in a setting like this. I bet there is not a single person on this board, with more than a few posts, that has not committed any of these heinous errors. Here is an example.

This is not a sentence. See how easy it is. This game could be played all day. I'd bet there is something wrong with what I have just written. I also don't care, as I'm not being graded. Just go with the flow and enjoy the show. :)

emails, text messages take away from a lot of what one sees face to face. And we all get into trouble at times with just typing. Smileys help but still not the same.
