Hi All,
Long time lurker on the forum here but FINALLY signed up and I'm ready to post. I've been reading up for a few months here and been trying to get a feel for a potential tractor purchase. Admittedly, I'm pretty much a tractor newbie- my only experience being on a NH TC35 with SS. Enjoyed using that tractor quite a bit but am trying to go with an HST just to make loader work easier. While it first felt large when I got it, I got very comfortable with its size very quickly.
So here is my usage scenario: We're converting a 6 acre palm tree nursery abandoned for the past 5 years to an eventual tropical fruit orchard. This will involve clearing all the hold palms, new irrigation systems, likely quite a bit of filling to avoid water collection and improve drainage, and clearing quite a bit of tall grass and brush that has grown up over the years. We will probably devote about 1 acre eventually to an organic seasonal vegetable garden.
The Tractors: Kioti DK40 SE HST- Considered the CK 35 but liked the extra flexibility with the DK line given the increase in cost. Don't imagine that the size is an epic difference but admittedly I'm a little worried that once the first year or two of getting the property in shape is over that I'll be left with an oversized tractor. That being said, I've got 50 acres in Ashe County NC (NW Corner) and I'm sure I could keep it busy up there.
LS4041- The dealer I spoke with was kind of high on a price coming in around 24k vs. 21 for the DK40HST. Seemed like a pretty equivalent machine but it's kind of a turn off when a dealer tries to high ball you from the get go. I did speak with an out of state dealer in NC and that price was essentially the same as the Kioti. I could use the local dealership for service issues if the need arose (I assume thats not a problem). Both this and the Kioti seem pretty close on features.
Deere 5045- Yeah, it's more money for a pretty similar tractor to the other two, maybe it's the green paint fumes but you can't argue with the resale value. Price difference is probably in the 4k range, but I haven't really price it out as much. I'd probably rather buy the implements I'll need with the money difference but figured I would toss this in there as an option.
Thanks in advance for the collective wisdom.
