I am looking at new tractors- have only a JD dealer and a Kubota dealer in my town, so my choice has to be one or the other as local servicing is important to me. Both have excellent reputations- so no advantage either way there. Use will be: small acreage to mow (with pull behind rotary cutter- about twice a year- mostly flat, but some slopes around pond embankment), and moving topsoil, bark mulch, and gravel for landcaping. I have been considering the following: JD 2210 or 4010 or 4110 or the Kubota B7510 or B7800. Any thoughts or suggestions greatly appreciated.

All good machines. Have you sat on each one to see if the controls are located where they are easy for you to use? Check for leg room, belly room if needed, ease of getting on and off? Turning radius? Back support in the seat? If you are gonna drop that much coin, you should be comfortable while working.

Oregon,

I would suggest reposting this question in a general tractor section. This is the "Lawn and Garden" discussion group. Lawn equipment is the topic here as opposed to tractors.

I used to have a little Orange machine (approx 20hp, hydro) and loved it until I started shearing the bolts off of the loader mounts, and had to start buying parts for the power steering. The local dealers didn't seem to have time for a small guy with a used tractor(bought privately) and Kibota Canada just referred me to my dealer when ever I called. I was turning green with frustration so I did the obvious, wound up with a 4300 Hydro(Green and Yellow of course). In 2000hrs of use I have however come to appreciate the fact that even with Hydro I could hit the clutch on the Kub and stop the PTO should the snow blower or mower grab too big a load(or something it shouldn't) and the side sway turnbuckle 3pth adjustment on the Kub was a lot easier than the JD pin in hole setup. My 2cents worth Pat

I like the Kubota bx23.
For something bigger in the Kubota line I like the b2410 or perhaps the b7610.
I would also like to try out the MF 2310.

I agree. My B7500 has out performed my expectations and then some. Its the perfect size for my 13+ acres..... /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Are you in Gresham? The folks at the JD dealer are super. The Kubota folks are almost as good, but their stuff sure is expensive.

I have a Kubota 6200D and a Yanmar 180D, which is the same as a JD 650 except with a better engine, according to the JD dealer. Both made the same year and sold for about the same $. Both seem to be good tractors, but the Yanmar shifts easier with no gear clash, while the Kubota has to be just about stopped and set to idle to shift, engage the pTO or go into or out of 4WD and the clutch is adjusted properly. The mechanic at the Massey dealer says he very rarely sees Yanmars (they make the smaller JD's) break and that they are probably the most reliable tractor out there. My logger has a neighbor who beats his machinery to death, but the guy's Yanmar just keeps on running. These are not recent models, but given my experience, I would go with JD.

Of the three John Deeres you listed, I believe the 4110 would be best suited for pulling a rotary cutter. The 2210 is a little higher horsepower, but the larger wheels and chassis of the 4110 will more than make up for it. One of my brothers bought a 2210 last year, though and he couldn't be more pleased. He runs a 60" mower, tiller, loader and a snowthrower. My only concern about the 2210 is simply that there isn't much clearance underneath and I would hesitate to use it in the woods. You look underneath one and you will see what I am talking about. I have heard rumors of JD unveiling a new line later on this summer. The 4110 and it's predecessor, the 4100 have been around for a while and are tried and true. My 4210 is built like a rock.
Kubotas are nice and I have in-laws who own them, but John Deere has me sold. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif
