Tractor Tunes or JD Mini Radio???

Actually, a digital unit with large preset buttons plus Sirius/XM satellite radio capability would be the cats meow.
I use a pair of Peltor Work Tunes while mowing on the zero-turn.

Being an XM fanatic, I had to have XM while mowing.
I bought a Pioneer Airware from Ebay, mounted a car dock on the lower end of the ROPS. I use the built in FM modulator in the XM, and tune the Peltor headset to the XM frequency. I now have XM on my green machine - even reaches out enough so when I am trimming away from the zero-turn I have XM tunes.

Prosperity,

That's good old American ingenuity at work. Nice.

Now wouldn't it be great not to have to jump through all those hoops and have a capability of two way comm included?

MP3, satellite radio, Am/FM stereo, and two way comm all built in- with hearing protection- all in one unit. That's what I want.

You could have a base station at home and a head set on each implement- ready to roll.

I picked up a pair of the John Deere noise reduction headphones. It has a spot to plug in your ipod or other MP3 player. I still can not get over how well the head phones work.

I have a set of the Bose Quiet Comfort II noise reduction headphones, and I am somewhat afraid to wear them. They are so good that I can easily lose situational awareness listening to them.

Our property is hilly and heavily wooded. I want to be able to hear the trees falling before they hit the FOPS. I will live with the diesel noise.

I bought a pair of noise reduction earmuffs with am/fm radio from Grainger. They work great I can still hear the engine though not as loud. It also has a place to plug in another device. I would think that you could hear a tree falling. Those cost me about $84. :)

Some kind of headphones with noise reduction is definitely the way to go. I just wear regularly hearing protectors on my tractor.

If a tree falls over in the woods and no one is around to hear it, does it still make noise? ; )

The JD's and the Bose are Active Noise Cancelling head phones. The ones we have been discussing thus far are simple passive noise reducers. IE they passively reduce the DB level of the noise by muffling it with sound suppressive materials like cotton, plastic, foam and combos of all these things.

The active noise cancelling headphones actually produce a sound that is out of phase with the noise producer, thus cancelling that noise- actively. They really work well on plane noise. I suppose they would work well on tractor noise as well. It's a neat idea.

The JD do a great job of taking most of the noise away. I can still here the tractor and MMM. Also can hear better if someone is yelling or a change in motor noise. This allows you to play the music at a lower level. I think they are very good.for the price. The diesel is very quiet to begin with but they really shine with gas powered items. My Toro walkbhind and JD snowblower are very load. The headphones shine with them running.

Try the Bose and see how they work.

ddivinia,

Maybe you already have good protection for your Ipod, but if not I would highly recommend these:

I have them for my Ipod Touch, and my Blackberry Curve. The armor series is virtually indestructable!

I like your idea of just buying the Bose headset, and using the Ipod w/it vs. the stand alone stereos.

Thanks for the advice everyone.
