i was thinking about tractor life last night, what i could expect being i dont use it to make a living.
if 1hr=100mi then 100hrs=10,000mi so 1000 hrs=100,000miles. i can expect 200,000 miles out of my f150 so i can easly expect 2000hrs out of my tractor without problems. it takes 5 yrs to get 100,000mi on truck so i should get 10 years out of my tractor if i protect it from weather.

My Kubota B7100 has over 2300 hours on it and should be good for a whole lot more. Nothing done to it engine wise other than change oil.

I've got 8000 hours on my tractor -- to get 800,000 miles out of my truck would be some feat!

this is true but i was cutting the tractors alot of slack in the comparison because we dont drive 100mph, a better average would be 50 mph so you could expect 4000 trouble free hours if you compare it to a descent truck. i have herd a professional tractor guy say he expects 7500 hrs without any major problems. if you have 8000 with no major problems that sounds exceptional. you might start thinking about trading up though.

That is really going to depend on your particular brand of truck and tractor. For example, my neighbor bought a new 6.5 liter Chevy diesel pickup and a new 5.9 liter Dodge diesel pickup in 1994. The Dodge has nearly 700k on it and has never had a wrench on the engine. The 6.5 Chevy only has about 170k on it and it has had a huge list of things done to it. For example, both heads have broken, the Standyne (sp?) pump has gone out twice, and it has had several other fairly serious issues. He has performed the same maintenance on each. This same scenario has been played out thousands of times.

Tractors will be the same way. To see over 10k hours on some brands is perfectly normal. With other brands, you will begin having serious issues around 2500 hours or so. Not all trucks, nor all tractors, are built the same and will, therefore, certainly not have the same life expectancy.

Gatorboy:

I surely hope to get about 10,000 hours on mine.

I have a neighbor with a John Deere 4430 with over 14,000 hours. Never done anything to it other than routine maintenance. This tractor is the farm's main prime mover so it gets the plowing, deep disking and subsoiling chores. Doesn't get babied at all. He purchased it new.

i like hearing these things lasting like that. the reason i started thinking about it was seeing used tractors for sale and i had no idea what the high end of hours was so i was comparing it to trucks for a general idea even though i know most tractors are built better i think. i to have had nothing but trouble with the two chevy trucks i have owned. bought my wife one last year, had to go rescue her last night for the second time. i think ill be trading it soon.

Fish whisper, I don't think you hour/mileage is real close cause the 03 3500 I just sold had 60,000 miles and it had @ 2300hrs on the computer hr meter.
I'm sure there are other members here with an 03 or newer GM truck that could check their hr/mileage for some comparisons.
