I am having a bad case of tractor withdrawl . I had my left leg amputated on 25 Aug and cant work on it. I look out the window and see it setting out there. waiting. It will be a few weeks before I get a new leg but in the meantime every time I look out the window I feel like someone in jail looking out the bars and seeing thier favorite horse tied to the hiching post but, you cant do anything about it.
All I can do is think of all the things I want to do with that tractor when I get that new leg. The list is getting long.
Any suggestions on how to make time pass faster would be apprecated

sorry to hear of misfortunes the major thing is keep your self busy i have the same problem being laid off maybe get some videos or something. or if your able to get around go outside one day and take in mother nature.

The one thing to think of as one of my friends has both legs cut Is you can do anything you set your mind to and jump back on the horse. He got hurt with a rotary cutter tractor flipped on him severing his legs back 10-15yrs ago up in indiana.

****. The loss of both legs unexpectedly has got to be a shock. I got my left leg smashed in 89 and since then have had numerous surgeries on it. I could walk some but it was very painful and I was limited on how much time per day I could be on my feet. I finally just got tired of it so asked a Dr. about the amputation and he agreed that it might be the best thing. It took me a long time to get myself in the rightframe of mind to do it but I know I made the right decision and I will be better off six months from now than I am now.or was prior to the amputation. I have taked to some other amputees and they have believed that I made the right decisson. It does still bother me to look out there and see that tractor and know that I cant even start it until I get my new leg. I also recently got a welder and have plans for building my own FEL and box blade. I got the welder mainly so I will have something to look forward to. So far its working and I do have a positive attitude about it. I am drawing up plans for the loader and testing them with poster board. I am going to try to copy the one that Danny williams buiilt and can be viewed in the build it yourself section of TBN

Shady, I want to tell you that I empathize with you about being layed off. It is very hard on a man when he is out of work. That was one of he things that bothered me when I first got injured.. A man feels the responsabilities to his family and besides that a mans job is who he is. at least that is how we guage ourselves.
I want to wish youthe best in finding work. and remind you that is also a lot like getting throwed off a horse. The biggest thing is you now have to find that son of a gun befor you can get back on him. Dont give up keep after it . It will be found. My prayers are with you..

Ralph, just based on the number of views -vs- the number of responses, I think I would be correct in saying that all of us wish the best for you, we just don't know how ro respond to these kinds of injuries. If you're wanting on that tractor that bad, you will find a way to make it work. Hopefully there are support groups in your area that will be able to assist you. I'm sure your tractor can be modified to accomodate your loss of a leg.
Good luck and my prayers are with you.

Hey, I was at a soccer coachs meeting over Labor Day and one of the coaches had both legs replaced. He is doing great and coach a sport that is almost all running. You will do great also. Keep you chin up. Good luck, brett w

Five string I know I will be back on it within 6 months. I have no regrets about the leg. I believe that I wont have to do any adapting to the tractor. I am not looking for sympathy for the loss of the leg. Just for not being able to use the tractor for awhile. I am in great spirits and am looking forward to my new leg which I believe will be better than my old one. I do appreciate your good wishes and believe they are sincere . Thanks.

Brett W. I have heard of many peopl e like that coach. believe that its 99% postive attitude that allows mento do such things. I have the positive attitude. Every where I go people are nice to me . opening doors for me before I get to them and such. In a way it has restored my faith in people. Most are just as nice and caring as they were when I was a young boy growing up in a small town. That is something I had begun to doubt. I thought people had become selfish and non careing. I was wrong. People are just as nice as they ever were.. I think its just a matter of them not having as many opportunities to show how good they are.
My Dr told me that the new prothsis's are truely great and if a young man wanted to play proffesional basket ball , he might be smart to get prothsis;s
Another thing is every where I go people ask me how can I be so bright and cheerful so soon after the loss of a leg. Its a matter of getting in the right frame of mind and setting your goals and then marching as straight toward them as you can with confidense.
Thanks to all
Ralph

I agree, people in general are nice folks. Of course there are a few bad apples, that has always been. Sometimes we get to looking at them and start to judge all alike. The only reason most people don't seem to care is they get busy and just don't notice that they seem not to care, when they really do. Just like when something happens in a place, you find a lot of people start to help, without being asked or anyone saying anything to them. I think it good that you are seeing the good in people and not getting down yourself. Life goes on, and we make a lot of it good or bad for ourselves. We have to live with what comes our way and go on living just like we planned it that way. God bless you sir.

There are a lot of good people out there and this board is proof of that. Most folks are just too busy these days, and if you work in a big city like I do, you just become calloused to all the needs around you.
You are a shining example of strength and courage to many people you come in contact with now. Congrats on your fantastic attitude and also to all those you now touch with your example. brett w
