Well I been done cutting firewood for 3 months now, someone is slow on the draw, this is now looging season for crying out loud. I've been out all day and noght cutting red oak log and leaving the tops in the wooods til next year or the maybe year after that. So after all this oak logging I been doing I came to a conclusion that red oak logs weighs lot more then any other tree around even more then that upper mid west wood, maybe its not the wood it's the water in the wood. The good news is I dont have a 4 wheel trailers to drive me crazy.

You get a lot of demand for red oak lumber? I've been toying with getting a BSM but the majority of what I have on my lot is Red/Black Oak. I am just not sure there is enough demand around here to make it worth while. Yes I would use some for my own use but I'd like to sell some to offset the cost of the BSM.

A guy dropped of some longleaf pine logs for me, two of them were too big for my tractor to pick up, 12' long an 26" dia, my calculator shows 2424 pounds each so I cut them into 20 inch pieces for chairs around the fire pit.

I did get a chance to cut up some 12' 2xs for the roof structure for my shooting deck

I guess you could get one of those "easy to hook up" "Doesn't need a jack for the tongue" 4 wheel wagons, and just have your wife come out and back in up for you! ha ha ha

Not really, might have better luck selling white oak, but if your the kinda guy that can sell a frigerator to a Eskimo then it dont matter what you have for logs. I'm using red oak for my bridge build cause it's strong, stands up to weather fairly good, tops make great firewood, and the biggest reason it's to hard to build a building with as appose to hemlock or pine.

A BSM is handy to have but a basic manual mill can be more hard work if by yourself, I bought one because my son has sawdust in his blood and goes good with his shingle mill. Since 2011 we have sawed lumber for sawmill building, front porch on house, garage rebuild, sons house, add on pantry so wife can put more stuff and the list keeps going going like a rabbit. All in all I'd rather drive tractor then saw lumber............

Heres some instructions on how to get these so called (my tractor cant lift the log WA WA WA) on the mill. But on the other hand if I had one of those new inventions, I think it's called a teliphoney, I could give SR a call and he'd come right over with his 4 wheel wagon and lift the log up on deck for me, I think his number is 1 ringy dingy 2 ringy dingy...........
