How big is your sawdust pile...........View attachment 551743 View attachment 551744<<<<my sons shingle mill is behind the pine where it came from.

I put down a bucket load of shingle hair mulch against my wall to help stop some erosion til I get some gutters put up, but what to do with the rest of the shingle hair pile>>>>>>

Just pile it up and it will turn into nice mulch in a few years,no weed seed just nice black earth. What kind of shingle mill does he own I have a Chase Mill.

I put my Rock and Root Rake to a serious test today and it did really good surprisingly enough. It is homemade so you just never know how it will stand up to real use, but it did good.

I want to clean up the mess the loggers left behind, but it is still too wet. I want to get ahead of the grass so that I can get the limbs all picked up before the grass hides it, and a missed limb gets jammed in the baler this summer.

Where their log yard was...I got my work cut out there. WOW!! It is about 3 feet deep with limbs and chips!! It still has frost and mud underneath so it will take awhile to push out of the field. I can envision a lighter in my future that is for sure! I'll push it into piles and torch it, then what remains I will try to push off, but there will be a lot less off it. From that I can rake the field with my rock and root rake and hopefully have some grass for next summer anyway!!

Nice. A while back you mentioned getting your son's blades tuned up; there is a place in Howland that may still do them. There also used to be a guy in Milo named Jones, the only reason I knew that is because my father sold him a bulldozer years ago. I believe that his shop was in Lumbra's yard, but that was over 10 years ago.

Few years ago he checked into that place and he didn't do big shingle mill saw blades, 30 years ago use to be a place in Bangor. So far the place in Saint Quentin Canada is the closes who knows how bang on a saw blade with a hammer.

He has a personality modified Lane mill, now under a 2 stroke diesel power plant. He's sold a fair amount of shingles down your neck of the woods.

I recall a number of big sawdust piles smoldering for a long time. Hard to put out.

My son dont seem to worry about smoldering sawdust piles, he said couple years ago he dug into the shingle hair pile to load a dump truck, still had ice and snow underneath in July, so I dont know, I'll let him worry about that.

Rock and Root Rake

Looks like a hey hay rake on steroids, and they say a picture is worth a 1000 words, imajine what a video would be worth with Katie driving the tractor and you making a video showing how and what that redneck engineering root rake does and works..............

Sugarloaf Mountain once experimented with covering the slopes with sawdust in springtime to preserve a base for the following ski season. Apparently it wasn't feasible though, because I haven't heard of them doing it again. I imagine they had quite a time figuring out what to do with all of that sawdust when they cleaned it off.
