Came across an excellent free find on craigslist. Full 16 foot dump trailer load of dead ash logs. They even loaded them into the trailer for me. What came out was the smaller pile. Hard to pass up even if I dont NEED the wood

Yes, almost every Ash around is dead or dying.

My Dad likes burning ash. It sure splits nicely and has heat about like red oak or sugar maple if I remember right.
We have the emerald ash borer by me here in NY.

I have had nothing but dead ash everywhere the last couple of years good for easy firewood, but sad to see all these ash trees dying.

Maine pretty much lost all elm trees 40 years ago, I still see a few here and there, not sure if they'll ever come back like they once was or not. I would like to one into lumber to see what kind of boards and dimensional's it makes.

I've been told they have interesting color and grain. If you ask around somebody probably has a few big enough for small sawlogs. The problem is that once they get the disease they start getting the epicormic sprouts; that's how you can tell they are diseased. We usually try to leave them, but occasionally a few land in the pile.

I have a large elm waiting to be milled. 12’ long 34” on the small end. Just need to find the time.

So I got my posts cut up this week for my overheads 6x6's mostly 16 feet long and 2 a little bit shorter. got some 16' 2x's and 1x's out of the deal too..
