wire sheathing is made from some sort of wheat which attracts them.

It's the plasticisers that are plant (yes, I think wheat) based. They make the sheathing more flexible.

Sure, animals love it....but hey.....it's "green"! I'd rather put poison in the wires, but maybe I'm a meanie.

I'm told the wiring coating is soy based, not sure what it really is...

Anyway, not much "wood" going on over this way, it's just too HOT, day after day in the 90's!!! But, there is "haying" going on, and I like to do the small food plots, the heck with those BIG fields! lol

I chose to rake those little food plots with my little Deutz today,

I have NOTHING into it and it looks like it's going to run forever!!

Nice, I'm not much of a fan of those little "shotshells" though . I have them in 22 mag and 44 mag, neither of which seem to work very well or have any range to speak of. I prefer a single accurate projectile.
I've used those shotshells in .22 a couple of times before, I thought they were a neat concept, but a .22 doesn't have a whole lot of powder to make them an effective knock down round at distance. Maybe OldPath can use them on the snakes he always seems to find. Maybe that's why he wears suspenders, so he can't jump out of his britches when he comes across one?? Anyway back to those shotshells, I also heard they do a number on the rifling inside the barrel because they come out straight. I'm no gunsmith, but it at least sounds plausible.

That's part of the problem shooting shot out of a rifled barrel, it does spin so when it gets to the end of the barrel it spreads too much. My 45/410 contender barrel is rifled but it has a spin stopper (looks like a choke) on the end of the barrel to stop some of that.

Shot shells, of any caliber, are NOT a knockdown round.

Henry came out with a smooth bore "Garden Gun" for those .22 shot shells.

YouTube

I have a little single shot .22 that I dedicated to shot shells and shorts just to quietly shoot varmints in the barns.

Over the years, many different brands of 22's were built with a smooth bores, I think there's still some new, smooth bore Savages around too...

It doesn't hurt to shoot them in a rifled bbl., but they won't pattern well in one.

When you're talking about .22 shotshells it's not powerful enough to kill anything at least reasonably quickly, it might bleed out eventually unless you by some miracle hit a vital organ with a tiny BB, and if it won't knock down the running chipmunk long enough so you can get another shot then it's purely a waste. I'll stick with my .17HMR hollow points that turns them inside out.

Main thing is they are quiet. Ive killed a lot of varmints with one shot with .22 shot shells. Your problem must be that you aren't getting close enough.

Like I said, I've only used a couple of times. My thought was that they would be good so you don't need a direct hit as this gives you a wider path so you can hit them as they are running. Fast little buggers. And yes the .17HMR is anything but quiet. Maybe I will see about getting a spare barrel for the Ruger SR22 just for shotshells. That's a fun little target pistol, shoot all day for like $20.

My little pump up Sheridan worked great on them! And quiet! ... Not that that matters!
