A big alder would be maybe 4-5 inches at the butt. And 8-10 tall. But most is broom stick in size and 8 feet tall. Good for nothing. How big do alder get down there?
I wouldn't say "good for nothing", I used a truck load of alder that size to smoke fish and some kinds of meat, it's excellent for that!

Alder here is nothing more than a nuisance Bush growing in ditches, growing up in neglected fields. In general if left alone most alder here has only a 2 to 3 inch diameter. We used to buy cemetary plant holders made from alders cut to 6" then nailed in an octagon similar to a log cabin. It also burns hot and makes a pretty good wood for beanhole beans. :p

Around here 50’-60’ in height and 30’ in width. I have one growing near a creek that is about 36" diameter at the base. It is not a choice firewood but we do process it sometimes since it splits so easy. It is not what we put in the stove for a night's burn by any means.

We’ll see them 32” plus on the stump and 150’ tall.

150' must be where they grow up in a stand of trees? That makes sense.

Mine grow on the edge of a stand where they are subject to leaning and then wind blow down. I am on the saltwater so we get good winds off the water.

50 feet tall! I wonder if we’re taking of the same. Species. 95 % here is no more than 1.25” in diameter. I cut one the other night with one swipe of the axe. No joke. It’s soft etc. I hear a lot of Americans refer to it as tag alders.

I had to look it up, but while ours is a shrub called speckled alder https://www.maine.gov/dacf/mfs/publications/handbooks_guides/forest_trees/pdf/speckled_alder.pdf; theirs is a different species; Red alder. Red Alder - Alnus rubra - PNW Plants

While our shrubs can be a nuisance they also are great at stabilising wet sites; one they get established the leaves and twig litter are great for building up the soil over time. It's also a great place to dig for worms in springtime.

Yes I suppose it does those things. I heard people say it burns really hot when dry. It loses a lot of water weight
