"Mountain height" is relative to the elevation above the surrounding terrain as I see it. It is called "topographic prominence".

Mt McKinley/Denali in AK is around 18,000 ft
Mt Rainier in WA is around 13,000 ft
Mt Elbert in CO is around 9,000 ft
That’s what I always thought.

Mt Katahdin is our biggest, yet doesn't even make the mile high club.

I have never had the desire to climb that one, either.

yes

here is an example

there is a music show on pbs called bluegrass underground. in the intro they go on and on about this music venue being so many thousand feet underground and they show folks getting on this tram and everybody is bundled up for the cold.

i had to go. Tennessee, saw mandolin orange

something like a 10? hour drive, thru snow, met my pals and went in.

it's maybe 20 ft underground! you enter this big cave and walk maybe 300 yards? on a slight downhill, turn a corner and bingo, maybe the coolest music venue you ever saw.

Turns out the cave, and its entrance, is at the bottom of a "mountain" that's a few thousand feet high so, i guess it's legit.

it's fun to watch on tv and pay attention to the performers reaction, they all say the same thing, coolest venue ever.

No doubt. I've been on flat ground all of my life though, so to start climbing up mountains all day would have taken a conditioning curve... cutting into my paycheck. As several have pointed out to me in the past, I don't even know what a real mountain is!
I resided (never considered it living) in colorado on the edge of the Rockies for a few years... hated it!! I'll take flatland any day!

Since you guys are still talking about mountains, here is a video of my casual drive up the tallest mountain in New England from the other day:

J/K obviously that is Travis Pastrana in an 800HP Subaru, with zero fear. You can't tell me that THIS one isn't a mountain, lol.

I’ve been to Mount Everest base camp 20 years ago. Mount Everest is high, but I don’t remember feeling like it was much different than the Rockies. Base camp is around 18000 feet and the peak is 28000. So 10000 foot prominence

My thought on watching that is what if a deer or something steps out?? And he seemed to have a LOT of play in his steering!

Still better than Florida where I think the tallest elevation of the sandbar is the garbage dump...

Finally got my camera out of the tractor with the first before and after pics.
The before shot is 180* from the after shot
We had only been cutting in there a few hours in the after shot.
A lot more canopy is open now that we have a few days more cut.
