Let's get this train back on track 👍
Tractor and wood, yesterday.

I prefer the cold also, as long as there's snow with it but I'm happy to get this and a few more loads out of the woods first. 😆

Long lengths and a trailer is the way to move wood (y) You need a little room to load it though. Impressive use of that trailer, must have been fun to load.

John that's an ex military trailer that is saw for sale on the side of the road 25 years ago. Iirc $300. I built the bunks for it and put a crazy long tongue on it so I could haul the long stuff.
I like to keep the logs out of the dirt as much as possible and depending on where I'm cutting on the property it can be close to a mile to my firewood "place'.
Any old farm wagon could do the same without too much of a building project. 👍

Nice load!!!

Nice load!!! I don't know what it's been down there, but we've gotten so much rain in the last few weeks that the ground is saturated. I'm hoping for a week or more of cold before we get snow again. If that happens I'm going to take some time off and bring out a load of hardwood pulp. The mills are hungry right now and I can always find uses for a few extra hundred dollars.
Creeks are up and there are low lying wet spots but it's not bad enough to tear and rut everything up.

Gordon there's a good half dozen landing on the property so I'm usually within a reasonable distance to load. It's CSI work, pecker poles of mostly beech and poor maple with some birch in the mix.👍
I've had that grapple for probably 20 years, invaluable for my needs. I clean up (hide 😁) the tops as I go trying to leave the area in a condition so that I can bushhog the inevitable beech re gen.
If there's anything on this planet that wants to grow, it's beech. Great firewood but little market value.

Just a little nice wet red oak to get me by for a bit!
Sure am burning a lot of water this year lol.

My wood this year is about the driest ever. It was a huge doug fir that was dead standing, then cut in 2019 and stacked under cover for 3 years.

Ever thought of making an adjustable reach for the trailer? How about push up stakes?

That little trailer never leaves the property so maneuverability is not a problem and the bunks were some misc. I beams I had laying around. There's a full aluminum "deck" on the trailer and those bunks space the logs up off of it for unloading similar to what the flatbed guys use when hauling logs.
I'm also only cutting firewood for myself so it's a little chicken S operation with an owner (me) that down deep is a lazy SOB who's getting older every day. 😆
