Im still young so I stay in shape year round. All summer I help my grandpa build barns, yeah, I run his bobcat a bit but I carry a LOT of wood to the barn by hand. Since my Yanmar doesnt have a FEL, I still get to do some manual digging. Even when I grade the road, I borrow the neighbors Bx24 and a shovel and get a scoop of gravel, then hand fill all the holes. I like getting behind a shovel. At my dads, we use the 3720 for most everything but a shovel is commonly used, from unloading stuff out of the truck, to digging a trench.

That must be my problem. . . i forgot what a shovel is:D

10 lbs for me. So many of us are slowly engineering manual labor out of our lives.

The older I get the harder it is to recover back to my old weight too.

The shovel is a big part of it for sure.

Tractors are nice with cute colors, but you shouldn't eat too many, even when the wife is not looking !
Seriously when I use the tractor a lot in the summer, I lose a good many pounds. They tend to come back in the winter when the tractor spends a lot of time in the barn.

I am older maybe than you but I bought a tractor with my wife's blessing. I could not have done the work I did with the tractor with a shovel and a wheel barrow , the job would have never gotten done. It is a work out to run a tractor to do heavy work. I have moved and cutup logs and moved them up a hill and landscaped our property, I did not gain weight, maybe lost some, but the work done could not be done by hand.

I think statistics will show, that your few extra pounds of 'ballist', are not as dangerous as the heart attacks suffered by many, during shoveling snow, etc! Farming, on the other hand is inherently dangerous. Probably with folks getting complacent, working with machines, that they've.......".... used a hundred times..." ~Scotty
